Product Overview

This is our JD Crowe thumb pick in a size large. This pick was designed by JD Crowe and constructed to his very exacting specifications. The BCT-JDL is the exact pick that JD uses. The pick bears JD's initials on the inside between the rivets. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 50/1000 of an inch(1.25mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard large thumb pick of any brand.

    Just won't fit; too long

    Posted by Globe1962 on 6th May 2021

First off, I've played banjo for 44 years. Scruggs, Reno, melodic styles, lots of single-string stuff. I use Golden Gate thumb picks. Two things are deal breakers with this pick: the blade is too long and the metal + plastic (or whatever it is) just doesn't fit well for me. It pinches a bit at the open end and doesn't go onto my thumb as much as I'm used to. It does have a good, completely scratch-free sound, but I wish it fit better.

superior quality. not right for me

Posted by joe on 29th Jan 2021

Wanted to love this but just not the right thumb pick for. Excellent quality and probably the most comfortable fitting thumb pick I’ve ever used. However the blade sits a little farther back on my thumb than I prefer and the metal the pick is riveted to extends a bit to far on the bottom, scraping the strings. It’s an amazing pick and I’m a huge fan of bluechip flat picks but this one doesn’t suit my finger style unfortunately.

    Most comfortable, great tone!

I love these picks. Fits my thumb perfectly. I haven't had any issue with them sliding off. And, the tone is great!

I wish I'd known about these years ago!

I've been using the Blue Chip for only about a month and I love them, so much so, that I ordered another as a back-up. I never thought 'd ever spend $40 [about $52 Canadian] for only 1 thumb pick but they are more than worth it! The fit is so comfortable and the sound is superb. Buy one, you will never regret it!

This thumb pick fits alot better than the plastic picks. Its going to take a lot of practice before I can use this pick the way I want.

Best thumb pick in 50 years

Posted by Marty on 28th May 2020

Wished I had learned of these picks years ago. Tired of going through Dunlops, my previous favorite, that seem to shorten after two or three sessions. This one fits well, stays put, doesn't diminish in length, and the tone is just right on all three strings (G, D, G). Worth every penny. You won't be disappointed.

Quality product at a quality price

This is a well constructed and engineered thumb pick that I expect will outlast most of the others I use. I was able to file it down to a size I prefer and it’s very comfortable to play. It’s expensive for sure, but durable and effective.

    Custom order - service: 10/10

Posted by John St. John on 16th Apr 2020

I ordered a custom CT55 mounted as a thumbpick, to help me control my pick when playing mandolin. As an old guy with a bit of arthritis, I found myself struggling to stay relaxed, and keep my pick from moving about in my hand. I was concerned that any fixed position would not be ideal. I wanted the ability to rotate the pick, to various styles of playing. (striking a little off the tip for tremolo, for instance.) A couple of emails to explain what I wanted.....and, in less than a week, I got just what I asked for. This pick has given me much more control over my pick.......which helps me play smoother (Smooth is fast, fast is smooth) more relaxed, and with less hand fatigue. . Thank you so much!

    Great Pick

Posted by Richard Fredrickson on 26th Mar 2020

I've used Blue Chip flat picks for years-love 'em; I'm mostly a guitar player. I have, however, gotten tired of the tips of my plastic thumb picks wearing down when I play banjo-always a new length tip to get used to when replacing an old worn thumb pick with a new one. I am so far very pleased with this pick and expect it to hold-up well for much longer! Thanks
