This is our JD Crowe thumb pick in a size large. This pick was designed by JD Crowe and constructed to his very exacting specifications. The BCT-JDL is the exact pick that JD uses. The pick bears JD's initials on the inside between the rivets. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 50/1000 of an inch(1.25mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.
Size compares to a standard large thumb pick of any brand.

I have used the standard BC thumbpick for years. I called looking for the best option for Christmas for my son, who plays pedal steel. After talking with the customer service person, I decided on the JDL for him. It was the perfect choice, and was sent promptly.
He loves it, and I greatly appreciate the help in choosing it.

After 20 years of breaking plastic thumb picks made by a company that I won't mention - but it is a National-ly known company ;) I have found a high quality and virtually indestructible thumb pick in the BCT-JDL
The Blue Chip blade rings true and extracts a clean tone from the strings, it is attached to the stainless steel band with 2 rivets and they have not loosened in over 6 years of playing. I have since ordered a BCT-JDL for my Resonator Guitar and a spare BCT-JDL for backup in case I lose one, and have ordered a BCT-JDL for a young banjer picker who was ready for the transition to a professional's thumb pick - he was so impressed with the tone and quality that it inspired him to double his practice time.

I had my thumb turn blue one too many times so I sought the advice of a banjo player pal of mine who suggested a BlueChip thumbpick -- not only for comfort but for the tone and the way the pick glides across the strings.
I was very skeptical of shelling out the big bucks - but wow - I'm glad I did.
This pick has made playing a lot more enjoyable - kind of like cruising the down the highway in an Electra 225 on a cool day with the windows rolled down.
I recommend trying one.

So far love my new thumb pick.

I bought my first T-JD over 10 years ago and it quickly became the only pick I could ever use. I simply can't play with any other thumb pick now. But recently, the blade shattered while I was trying to adjust the band with pliers (which seems odd). Anyway, I immediately ordered another. Long story short, the new one did not have the smoothly beveled edged of my original, creating a rather rough sound and feel when it hits the string. Seems like quality control is not as good as it was.

Yes, this pick is pricey, but do you and your thumb a favor! I have tried various plastics thumb picks - (Standard Dunlop, National, and Zookies). I have spent lots of time trying to get a comfortable fits with the plastic picks by putting them in boiling water and then shaping them with pliers. The problem was always the same, the plastic picks would cut off the circulation to the tip of my thumb and cause it to go numb. I admit that I was skeptical, but after receiving some money for Christmas I decided to splurge. My only regret is that I did not make this purchase earlier! This thumb pick is extremely comfortable and I can now play for hours straight without any thumb pain or numbness.

Very well made and should be comfortable, but didn't really work for me. The large fits OK, but is a little bit looser than I'd like, but the medium doesn't come close to fitting so, the large is my only option. Also, the pick blade is much longer than I like, so I filed it down so it didn't extend so far past the edge of my thumb. Which was easy enough to do, but once I'd done, the rivets that hold the blade in place were too close to the new edge I'd created and I'd catch the rivet on the strings. Great pick if it works for you, but it doesn't for me.

Wish I bought this thumb pick long ago and after using it I don't think I'd be able to go back to what I was using before. It is on the pricey side but definitely worth it.

This is a great pick. I have been using it for a few months. It is comfortable, but had to bend it a little to snug it up to fit my thumb. Now it fits the way I like it and feels great on my thumb. It gives a clean, crisp sound without string scratch. Now that I have gotten used to it my picking seems to have gotten a little better.

The metal part on the large thump pick could be a bit thicker and have more spring to it. I play banjo for the Band Prairie Grass and in the summer my thumb sweats and there is some move of the pick. ( festival temp was 104 deg. Had to use gorilla snot to stabilize it. Has good tone and balanced sound with the silver finger picks.
