Product Description

Inspired by Russ Carson, this thumbpick is the same one he uses.  It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a talon shaped BlueChip pick.

These picks are named BCT-BR in memory of Byron Robbins. Byron was a close personal friend of BlueChip's owner Matthew Goins and an avid banjo player who lost his battle with cancer in 2018. We are proud to be able to have this small opportunity to honor him.

These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard Large thumb pick of any brand.

Posted by on 22nd Dec 2022

This thumb pick is just awesome it glides over the strings and the band is really comfortable, this is my third one, this is to replace the one I lost last summer, my other thumb pick is a JD Crowe love that one to but a bit different.

I heard of people talking online about these picks, so I pulled the trigger. Glad I did! I love this pick. It fits me perfectly and has a nice clear sound, and a sound that projects. Thank you. I am very happy with this purchase!

Newer player so the design and length was perfect for me! Very comfortable, and adjustable to my thumb. Best pick ever!

  4. best thumb pick in my opinion 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Jul 2022

I have played banjo since 2011, and have gone through numerous thumb picks in that time. This is the best of both worlds. I love the fit of a metal pick and the sound of a plastic pick. This combines them into one great pick. I will never use another thumb pick!

  5. curl 4 Star Review

If the hand side of pick had more curl it wouldn't dig into cuticle so much when sliding on. To avoid this I pry up pick slightly but the pick is the best I've ever used.

  7. To new to review 4 Star Review

Posted by on 16th Feb 2022

I am restarting banjo after 50 years. Previously I never got to the level I wished; I hope I achieve that this time. In doing my research for this restart I learned I should be using the BCT-BRL. I wanted to use the best so I went with the reviews and recommendations I found.
I rate at four star because I am not proficient yet which is me not the pick.
I am very excited to have this pick.

  8. It took a lifetime to find! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Jun 2021

At last a thumb pick that fits snugly, but doesn't cut off the blood supply! I also love the wider spacing of the BRL which gives a fantastic constant bass to my acoustic guitar. I'm going to have to order another now!

  9. Excellent pick 5 Star Review

This may be the best thumb pick I've tried yet! Very well designed, it doesn't move around, and the shape of the blade makes for a clean attack.

  10. Large band with medium blade should be standard stock 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Feb 2021

I ordered the "Ned Luberecki special," which is a large band with medium blade. Just right! I have seen plenty of Blue Chip thumb picks that have been modified by the user, but to keep that point at the end you will need to order one like I did. Sounds great and I don't get the head tap any more.
