Thinner, and brighter sound than expected

Posted by josh apaza on 8th Sep 2023

After using a CT 55 for years (I think I’ve ordered 4 of these so far) I wanted to try something with a more rounded corner similar to the Dawg picks I had tried in the past, but didn’t love because they didn’t give the volume and punch that I was looking for. The TAD 1R 50 seemed like a good option because it does have one rounded corner but also some more pointy options. I immediately noticed the difference in thickness between this pick and the CT as well as the super bright tone it has. It’s super slick on the strings and seems to be a little easier to play faster with than the CT, however with the difference in thickness I feel like tone isn’t nearly as warm or full as with the CT. The rounded corner does give a warmer tone than the points but still to my ear it’s a bit thin and tinny. This might be something my ear will adjust to and enjoy at some point but initially it makes me want to pick up the CT and use that. I will continue to use the TAD to see if it continues to grow on me or if I can find pieces of music the brighter sound works well with. It is easier to produce volume with this pick which is nice. For now I’ll mostly stick with the CT until I feel like spending another $35. I’m sure BC has an option similar to the TAD 1R 50 that s more similar in thickness to the CT 55 that I would try next time. I do still give 4 stars for the pick because I think if you were looking for a pick with loud bright tone that slips effortlessly through the string courses this would be a nice option for you.

    Tone, Control, Feel, Quality

Love my new special order TAD55-1R. It’s got the fat tone I was after and still plays buttery smooth. Feels amazing in hand and doesn’t slip. Couldn’t be happier.

    BlueChip Picks are Exceptional

I have 3 BlueChip picks, TD50, TAD50-1R, and TAD60-1R. All 3 are amazing! I love both the feel of the picks and the tone they produce!

    Great sounding flatpick

Some wonder why others would spend the money for a Blue Chip flat pick, but once you've tried them, you'll want one too. Terrific tone, slick, smooth, perfectly beveled for easy picking, and they last forever. Hard to describe but try one and you'll understand and want one (or quite a few). The small variations in thickness can make a big difference in tone and brightness, so you'll want to try a few to make sure you get the one that's right for your style and instrument.

    Most favorite pick I own

This has perfect rigidity and size and does not slip easily from the grip. I sound much more like Billy Strings now.

Better than i thought it could be

They should offer insurance, as I lost mine and had to spend another $40 for a pick. A pick! A great pick, enough so that I bought another.

Great feel and thickness for me. Not sure I needed one rounded tip but decided I would try it.
