Product Description

The TP-1R is our classic triangular pick in a 40/1000 of an inch thickness with ONE ROUNDED CORNER.  All of our picks are professionally machined, hand beveled, and laser etched.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. Definitely a Difference 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Dec 2023

I was skeptical that changing picks would make much difference but I was wrong. The Blue Chip is louder and clearer, The rounded side gives a very different feel and sound from the pointed side, so it's like having two picks in one.

  3. Trying out new size 5 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Dec 2023

Always loved blue chip picks. Trying out the TP1R-40 for the first time. Same great tone and a bit different feel than my normal TD-40s. Getting used to the larger size - I think I like it as much as the TD-40. Got the free engraving and it looks great.

  6. You pay for the best! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Feb 2023

I’ve played for nearly 25 years using a plethora of different picks and have never experienced what the blue chip brings to the table. It glides smoothly across the strings with little to no pick noise and bring a beautiful tone out of my guitar. That being said, you can get 85-90% of what this pick has for a fraction of the price with other brands. I would recommend this pick to anyone who’s trying to get the absolute best out of their guitar tonally.

  7. Wouldn’t Use Anything Else 5 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Jan 2023

I love the variety of tones that this pick allows. I honestly wouldn’t think of using anything else for guitar playing than the TP-1R series of picks by Blue Chip. They fit perfectly in the hand and the various thicknesses are great for different sounds.
The TP40-1R is perfect for strumming with just enough thickness for adding embellishments or small runs. This is my go-to pick for tons of songs.

  8. Quality Long Lasting Picks! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Jan 2023

I purchased my first Bluechip Pick in March of 2013. I have played it hard (bluegrass/gospel) and used it on not only guitars, but also mandolins. I cannot tell that the pick has any wear whatsoever on it. And, when I first started using it, it took my playing to another lever due to the improved sound of the instrument (no "tick sound" from the pick). Yes, it improved the sound of my instruments which encouraged me to play more and improve my skills. If you think the price is too steep, think of the money I've saved over the past 10 years. I used to buy an average of 5 picks a month at around a buck a piece. No brainer, Best Picks Ever!

  9. Always Make Mine Blue Chip 5 Star Review

Best picks for whatever style of play. I personally love the shape of the TP-1R picks. Blue Chip immediately stands out when it comes to quality. The ability to get a custom thickness is absolutely brilliant and their client service is amazing.

  10. Super versatile pick, 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Aug 2022

Over the past couple months I’ve bought 9 BC picks of different shapes, bevels, and thicknesses. This was my second BC pick and it’s the one I pick up most often. I may get one of these in 50 thickness with a round bevel as I’ve found 50 to be my favorite, but there really isn’t a massive difference - more a difference of feel than tone. I think one of these with speed bevel and one with round bevel would cover most bases for most people.

To my ear, the tone difference is most evident depending on the bevel; normal bevel sounding darker/mellower than speed bevel. I hesitate to say “darker”, as dark sounds like a bad thing, but in this case I just mean less trebley. Next would be shape; round mellower than “pointy”. Thickness is obviously a factor too but mine are mostly in the 40 to 60 range so I don’t have any of the thicker versions to compare yet. I do have a 35, which I like for strumming acoustic. The Kenny Smith 60 is the darkest of the picks I have. Again, not dark in a bad way, but perfect for taming my spanky Tele bridge pickup. When spank is what I want, I use the pointy part of the TP-1R 40. When I want a bit less top end, the round corner works great. If I had one with a normal bevel, even more options.

The biggest difference in tone for me came when I switched to flat wound 12 gauge strings from the round 10’s I’ve used for 30 years, but being able to tweak things just by changing picks is amazing. Owners of BC picks will know all this already, but if you don’t own one, you’re in for a treat.
