Product Description

This is our JD Crowe thumb pick in a size medium. This pick was designed by JD Crowe and constructed to his very exacting specifications. The BCT-JDL is the exact pick that JD uses. The pick bears JD's initials on the inside between the rivets. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 50/1000 of an inch(1.25mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard medium thumb pick of any brand.

Great to finally find a quality left handed thumb pick and very fast international shipping!

  2. Eliminated all the scratching sounds I used to make 5 Star Review

Posted by on 15th Feb 2021

I have been fiddling with the banjo all my life...never having had the time to really devote myself to it, so I am like many who are perpetual beginner/intermediates...more beginner sadly.

I have always had trouble with my thumb pick scratching the fifth string. I read that this new J D Crowe pick helped a player who posted about it. So I tried it.

And it is like magic. I never, I repeat, NEVER, now hear that annoying scratching. And it inspires me to practice more. It was so well worth the money.

  3. I'm happy! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Feb 2021

I am one and a half months new to banjo, and stringed instruments in general. I saw many people in the instructional videos using these so I bought one. I love it, and it doesn't grab the fifth string like the plastic one I started with. It doesn't move on my thumb and just feels solid. I practice just about every day so it's worth it to me! Thanks for making it!

  4. I really like it. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 6th Feb 2021

I just started playing banjo. I saw several people using these pics on instructional videos and ordered one. The plastic ones fit tight at first but got loose. This one stays in place and it doesn't grab the fifth string like the other ones. Once I got used to it, I love it. Thanks for making them.

  5. Best Thumb Pick on the Market 5 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Jan 2021

Hey. I've been playing Bluegrass banjo since 1973. I have purchased and played and experimented with everything I can get my hands on--Golden Gate, Dunlop, Propik, Acri, Showcase, and other smaller makers. Nothing compares to BlueChip on every single point: comfort, playability, durability, design and workmanship. Right out of the tube (yes, it's shipped in a little plastic tube), very minor adjustments are necessary to get the pick to feel natural on the thumb. The BlueChip material, whatever it is, does not show wear. Ever. And it creates a crisp, clean, solid and warm tone that is a huge step up from any "normal" plastic tip. The construction of the pick is state of the art. I use my JD Crowe Medium on banjo, guitar, and even on my 1920's Epiphone banjo-uke. Just hope I never lose it!

excellent material that enhances the sound of the strings by returning all the harmonics

  7. Best Pick on the Market 5 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Aug 2020

    Cons: Pricey
Pros: American made, top notch quality, smooth action across the strings, most comfortable band on the market.

    Summary:
While there are similar thumb picks on the market this one takes the best parts of all of them and combines it into one pick. If you have the money to spend, or are looking to buy a gift for a picker this pick is a special treat.

  8. Best Fingerstyle Thumbpick Available, Period! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Aug 2020

I am a Chet Atkins/ Tommy Emmanuel Fingerstyle player and i have been playing for 38 yrs and had been still trying to find the best thumbpick/fit since. Every thumbpick i have tried no matter the maker of the placstic ones either slips from being too weak or too tight and killing my thumb. And the tone from them are all dull. So i bit the bullet and tried the Bluechip JD-M and the search is now over, its the first thumbpick i have ever had that the shank is not too long and i had to adjust. This pick first of all when you first get it has to be made to fit your thumb, and you can do it yourself. It just takes a short minute to do, just bend and adjust it to fit your thumb if you dont you wont like it. But once you get it fit it sure dosent move, and the material used is way way better than plastic. The tone, attack, punch and overall fit and playability is perfect, simply the prefect fit. I know there are players saying they are too expensive, not when it works! Remember every piece of gear makes a difference in the tone your trying to achieve, and dont forget about the pick your using! Highly Highly reccomended, you will be so glad you switched to Bluechip!

  9. Excellent Thumbpick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Aug 2020

Great tone and very comfortable. I've used Nationals for guitar and blue Hercos on steel for decades. This pick replaces them both. It feels lighter on the thumb than a National but has beefier and clearer tone. Really brings out bass strings. Also does flat picking runs on a guitar nicely... it's smooth and doesn't catch. Going to have to buy another as a backup!

  10. Great Tone and Very Comfortable 5 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Jul 2020

The blue chip thumb picks are both capable of producing beautiful tone without pick noise as well as being very comfortable at the same time. While I have not played every thumb pick available in over 40 years of playing, I have played most of the popular picks and have used the blue chip since they came out. Given what we spend on a banjo, lessons books and the time we invest to improve our playing, the blue chips are a deal.
