This is our JD Crowe thumb pick in a size medium. This pick was designed by JD Crowe and constructed to his very exacting specifications. The BCT-JDL is the exact pick that JD uses. The pick bears JD's initials on the inside between the rivets. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 50/1000 of an inch(1.25mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.
Size compares to a standard medium thumb pick of any brand.

I'm a long-time customer of Blue Chip picks. I have never, ever been disappointed in the quality of their thumb picks and flat picks. My latest purchase, BCT-JDM thumb pick, is exactly what I've come to expect from this fine company: great quality and prompt service. I highly recommend their products!

I’ve been through quite a few thumb picks in search of one that is comfortable to wear for extended periods of time, and has a pleasant tone. For 5 string banjo, the JD Crowe thumb pick is my favorite ever. It is so comfy I forget I am wearing it. As far as tone goes, the picked notes have a bright attack without being harsh, and the sound highlights the fundamental of the note without too many overtones. This has the effect of focusing the sound, making it cut through a mix without being harsh or brittle. I have two of these picks, and while they are more expensive than plastic thumb picks, the benefits are worth it.
One note: get a size larger than you think you need. I do not have large hands, but I wear a size L thumb pick.

Seems to be well constructed. The two piece design melds plastic and metal. As long as the bond holds, and it apparently isn’t an issue judging by the workout the pros give it, it’s a quality pick. Given that, it’s up to the picker to determine if it’s worth $40. I find that after some fitting adjustment that it’s a step up from the plastic National thumb picks I’ve been using. It plays smoothly and the sound is clear and balanced.

The pick is comfortable and immediately fit perfectly. It has a very smooth feel and a nice mellow sound as well. There is no pick noise at all.

I put this pick on and noticed the difference the moment my finger touched the string. I had been using a total metal pick before this (not a good idea - do not advise using a completely metal pick), and the pick noise on my previous pick was ear-piercing. Once I used the bluechip, my tone went up to an enormous degree, making me laugh for joy at the improvement.

I started using this thumb pick about 5 years ago and is the only one I use for banjo or guitar. Trust me you’ll love it too

The thumb pick will not loosen due to the heat of your fingers. The banjo sound is very clear.
For guitars, it is smooth and reduces the picking noise of wound strings when microphoned.

I can see why so many professionals use this pick. It’s excellent.

I love this pick. It is the best length for the way I pick, and is very smooth and quiet on the strings. It is the most comfortable thumb pick I’ve ever used. Totally worth the cost.
