Product Description

This is our JD Crowe thumb pick in a size large. This pick was designed by JD Crowe and constructed to his very exacting specifications. The BCT-JDL is the exact pick that JD uses. The pick bears JD's initials on the inside between the rivets. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 50/1000 of an inch(1.25mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard large thumb pick of any brand.

I bought another BlueChip thumb pick, so I’ll have one in each banjo case. They way, I won’t forget my BlueChip, when decide to play a gig with a different banjo.

Excellent pick, very comfortable and it enhances the sound of the strings. Price is on the higher end, but worth it.

  3. Whew--Thank you BC! 5 Star Review

My favorite part about this pick is the shape. I struggle with right hand tension, which is very limiting at high speeds. This pick finally put the balance of my hand in the right position and has opened up a whole new world of better playing for me. Thanks always to the folks at BC!

  4. Outstanding thumbpick 4 Star Review

Love the sound it produces. My only complaint is that I feel a bit like Goldilocks in that I ordered the small the first time and it was too small, then I ordered the large, and it's a little loose. Should have ordered the medium!!

Fit well with some shaping, I like how short the thumb pick is for me but I’m pretty new to using one.

  7. I've bought two 5 Star Review

Found myself without my faithful Blue Chip - not lost but not readily available either. Bought the second one to use while I am away. I bought the large even though I don't consider my hands to be particularly large but the large fit perfectly without any adjustment.

Best thumb pick I’ve ever used!!

  9. Well made pick, just not for me. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 28th Dec 2022

I ordered the large size as recommended by the description as I currently use a Jim Donlop large plastic thumb pick. It just doesn’t fit as tightly as I am used to so I did not have the control I’m used too. It wasn’t a matter of size as the way it fit me. The pick arrived in excellent condition and finish was superb. The good thing is BlueChip is allowing me to exchange it for a pick of my choice. It’s great to deal with such a reliable company.

  10. Best fit ever but could it be better 4 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Nov 2022

I have been using Dunlop large picks (metal and plastic) for over 40 years. It amazing how much better the BlueChip pick hugs my thumb. I also love the sound produced by it.
I would have given it a 5-star rating if it was a tighter fit. I always used a large Dunlop pick and thought the BlueChip would be similar. It is fairly snug but only if it is positioned next to my knuckle. If it was less expensive I would try the medium size to see if it was a better fit.
