Product Description
This is our JD Crowe thumb pick in a size large. This pick was designed by JD Crowe and constructed to his very exacting specifications. The BCT-JDL is the exact pick that JD uses. The pick bears JD's initials on the inside between the rivets. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 50/1000 of an inch(1.25mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.
Size compares to a standard large thumb pick of any brand.

super grippy doesnt wear.

Had this banjo pick now after buying from a uk store that stocked various kinds of blue chip picks. I’ve had mine for over 6 months and decided to invest in 2 more direct from HQ.
The stainless steel did loosen off a bit over 6 months( bloomin tight at first ) but I would have had at least 2 of my old plastic picks snap in this time. To clarify it’s not slack it’s just loosened to the size of my thumb.
I ordered two which came promptly and with good prior email communication. The price charged on the invoice was the price I paid - no faffing with import duty or other admin.
I really like these picks and I went for the jdCrowe large at the recommendation of a friend ( Joe Mac).
These are not cheap but it’s the main contact with the string and the blade has shown no sign of wear at all.

BCT-JDL Thumb pick review

I found the pick to be beautifully finished with the metal band highly polished with raised edges that do not dig into the flesh.
The blade is also highly polished and the perfect length for my style. It required no alteration to fit my thumb perfectly!
Owning BlueChip flat picks, I know the blade on the thumb pick will last indefinitely.
I am very happy with this product and do recommend it to others.

Ordered a backup Blue Chip banjo pic. I’ve tried all the plastic pics and they do not compare to the Blue Chip. It stays on my thumb whether picking or sweeps

Pick is very comfortable, does not show any wear at all yet. Quality product. Big difference from a standard thumb pick. I own a bluechip flat pick as well, have had it for a year not showing any wear yet.

Tremendous picks. I have several different models…each one distinct sounding from the other, Comfortable, extremely stable and wonderful sounding. You know all those picks you find in the dryer and on the floor…well, you won’t ever misplace THIS one…you’ll take real good care of it!

Comfy, Clean & Crisp

Comfy - The Bluechip JDL fits my thumb perfectly. It feels as thought they used my right thumb to design the prototype. Perfect fit! I wondered if I would feel the rivets, and I do not feel them at all. So comfy!
Clean & Crisp - my attacks are soooooo much cleaner and crisper than before my Bluechip thumb pick. I’ll never go back to the big, fat blades of the solid plastic picks. There is almost no scrape against the wound fourth string no matter what angle I strike it.

Best Pick I've Tried!

Initially got the large thumb pick, but the pick part was a little too long and I was striking the banjo head to often. I got the JDL version instead and it is a little shorter. That seemed to do the trick and this is a wonderful pick! It matches the tone and volume of my Hoffmeyer fingerpicks and completes the set nicely!

Bought this to compare with my ProPik Super-Tone Thumbpick. The JD BC wins hands down! More comfortable and a better fit. I can feel the back of the blade more allowing me to make a more precise down stroke. Perfect length and blade shape. Better tone! The pick just glides off of the strings and feels more natural. Better speed and control. Easier to play. Makes me sound better. I’m sold!

I bought another BlueChip thumb pick, so I’ll have one in each banjo case. They way, I won’t forget my BlueChip, I when decide to play a gig with a different banjo.
