Product Overview

Inspired by Russ Carson, this thumbpick is the same one he uses.  It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a talon shaped BlueChip pick.

These picks are named BCT-BR in memory of Byron Robbins. Byron was a close personal friend of BlueChip's owner Matthew Goins and an avid banjo player who lost his battle with cancer in 2018. We are proud to be able to have this small opportunity to honor him.

These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard Large thumb pick of any brand.

    Thumbpick Changed Everything

Posted by J Stephen Solimine on 13th Feb 2025

Even after years of three finger picking, the architecture of my hand wouldn't allow for clean and reliable attack using standard plastic thumbpicks. BlueChips BR-L thumbpick changed all that. Thank you Blue Chip.

    Exceptional Customer Care

Posted by Tom Calabro on 3rd Sep 2024

I'm new to finger picking, so I pretty much guessed as to which pick was right for me. Well......I got it wrong. I wrote to BlueChip Picks and explained that the pick was too long. They recommended another model and told me they would gladly replace it for me. The new pick works perfectly with my hand size and my attack on the strings. I've used their flatpicks for years, so I was familiar with the crisp and clear sound their material produces and its resistance to wear, so I'm sure my finger pick will supply me with years of enjoyment.

    Almost perfect!

Posted by Jonathan Bluemel on 26th Jun 2023

I've been using Blue Chip Thumb picks for a while now and they hold up better than any other pick. They wear down slower and they don't develop a rough edge. I do have to massage them a little to get the shape the way I like, though. The edges are too sharp so I round them over and the top curve needs to be straighter. I use a fine emery board to bring in the shape and then they're ready to go and they last like iron. No other pick I've tried lasts as long.

I heard of people talking online about these picks, so I pulled the trigger. Glad I did! I love this pick. It fits me perfectly and has a nice clear sound, and a sound that projects. Thank you. I am very happy with this purchase!

Newer player so the design and length was perfect for me! Very comfortable, and adjustable to my thumb. Best pick ever!

best thumb pick in my opinion

Posted by Unknown on 8th Jul 2022

I have played banjo since 2011, and have gone through numerous thumb picks in that time. This is the best of both worlds. I love the fit of a metal pick and the sound of a plastic pick. This combines them into one great pick. I will never use another thumb pick!

    curl

Posted by Unknown on 23rd Feb 2022

If the hand side of pick had more curl it wouldn't dig into cuticle so much when sliding on. To avoid this I pry up pick slightly but the pick is the best I've ever used.
