Product Description

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. Feels great, Works great 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Mar 2013

Recently purchased the CT55 to use with mandolin. This pick feels great in the hand. Plenty large enough and is the right amount of stiffness for me. Pick bites well with no string noise. So many of the other mandolin picks are just to thick for my taste. This one is a winner.

  2. Amazing pick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 28th Feb 2013

I recently took up mandolin, and have been playing at church. I have played guitar and bass for years, but am new to this instrument. I had trouble with the picks I was used to, shifting in my hand, dropping them, etc. Bought this pick because I love Chris Thile's music, honestly.
Have already used it in a worship service, and have to say it was amazing. I love it.
I just know if I lose it (heaven forbid), I would definitely get another.

  3. BEST PICK I'VE EVER OWNED 5 Star Review

SIMPLY AMAZING. TRY 1 AND YOU'LL BE HOOKED. I HAD A BUDDY OF MINE TELLING ME FOR OVER 2 YEARS. I FINALLY SPENT THE CASH AND WISH I HAD DONE IT YEARS AGO.

  4. I'm keeping this one! 5 Star Review

My son talked me out of my first CT 55, believe me, he is the only one I would have given it up to. I haved used tortoise shell for the last 30+ years but I prefer the smoothness of the Blue Chip on the strings and the consistency of the edges.

  5. Superb 5 Star Review

If you only ever buy one more pick, it needs to be this one. I wouldn't have believed the sound and playability difference it could make for me. Crisp clean sounds on open and fretted notes alike and seems to make my playing easier. Pray I never lose it and many thanks to the Goins.

  6. best pick I ever touched 5 Star Review

Posted by on 31st Jan 2013

I used to have several different picks for my guitars that seemd to work best, each with a different one

now I was looking for a mandopick on the web as I had tested everysingleone that I could lay may hands on
never got quiet happy - this thing changed it all...

probably will be my number one guitar plec from now on, too

    many thanks!

  7. Still # 1 for me 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Jan 2013

I still can't find any other pick that makes the same sound as the CT 55 on a mandolin. I just bought a new mando and this is still "the one." I've used several different picks including 3 of the 60 thickness Blue Chips, but this is the pick that allows me to move between strings the easiest while producing a strong, clean, bright sound. I lost one on stage recently and felt naked for the rest of the gigs I sat in on until I got home and reordered.

  8. Great, great pick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Jan 2013

I had one of these before and traded it away (for another BC). I was glad that I finally replaced the CT55 with another, because it is an awesome pick. I got a 1-R option, and alternate between rounded and pointed edges. Both feel and sound fantastic.

  9. CT-55 and TAD60-1R 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Jan 2013

I ordered both of these picks with a round bevel. I'm a new mandolin player but a long time flatpicker. I'm really enjoying both picks and I don't really have a favorite yet. The TAD 60 has a little darker sound (especially when played on the 1R edge. But, I don't know if I could distinguish the sound if I didn't know which I was playing. Great picks...as are all the BC picks. Trick is finding the best one for you.

  10. Still Excellent 5 Star Review

This is my second CT-55. They are the best picks I have ever used, & as long as I can hold on to them, they should last a very long time.
