Product Description

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. This is the one momma told you about . 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Nov 2012

1st Place: I now own three of the CT-55's.
Works well for mandolin and guitar.

    2nd Place: TP1-R (50 and 60)
Having one rounded corner is a must for my pick.

    3rd Place: TAD-1R 60
I was very surprised at how much I like this pick. It will make your dawg bark.

"Life's to short to have a sorry job or pick."

  2. Betcha Can't Buy Just One 5 Star Review

The CT 55 is a great pick. It feels like an extension of my fingers. It does not slip therefore I do not have to perform the annoying pick reposition dance while jamming.
It has great tone and you can really deke in and out of the strings.

  3. The World's best pick! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 1st Nov 2012

I've been searching for the perfect pick since I started playing back in '96 and now I've found it! The CT 55 gets a think and punchy tone that cuts through banjos, dobros, fiddles and mandolins and it doesn't slip out of your fingers like so many lesser picks do.

It's a must for any flat picker!

  4. Worth the wait and the money ! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Oct 2012

Having tried various picks of various designs and shapes i decided to go for a 'CT 55' for my 'A9' mandolin. I can tell you i made the right decision! I ordered it on the 14th of October then spent the next fourteen days waiting here in the UK. To my delight it arrived this morning (30th) and i've been playing most of the day! It feels right and most of all sounds right! well worth the (short)wait and definately worth the money!

  5. I like it better as a guitar pick 4 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Oct 2012

I should've gone to a store to test out some different blue chips. I should have guessed that Chris Thile's pick would provide that very crisp, sharp sound that he gets, and sacrifices some of the warmth that a more rounded pick gets. Its a great pick, and I actually love the clarity and loudness it gives as a guitar pick, but I think I'll try to find a mandolin pick with rounder edges so I can get that "warm, full, thick, bassy" tone for chopping, tremolo, and picking. Would like to buy whatever Adam Steffey's using.

  6. Not Your Average 5 Star Review

I lost my firt bluechip pick fishing. It fell out of my pocket with a bunch of fish hooks. I hope the person who finds it, plays. After the loss I ordered a new one when I got home. Wouldn't be without it.

Right from the first moment I held this pick in my fingers it was clear that this was the best pick I've ever had. Great playing, great tone, never slips out of my fingers. I ordered immediatly some more.

  8. Simply the best 5 Star Review

Posted by on 16th Oct 2012

I've been playing for more than 15 years, and I've had picks of all shapes and thicknesses. The CT55 is the best I've ever used. I use it on my acoustics, electrics, mando and cigar box guitar. Great feel, great tone and I can't seem to wear the thing out. I can't imagine using any picks other than CT55 from now on, but if I do, I'll be sticking with Blue Chip picks.

  9. Try it you'll like it. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Oct 2012

When I first got this pick I thought it was too large. I called Matthew Goins and told him so and he said send it back. It was on a weekend so I thought that I would just play it over the weekend and did. Needless to say it is still here and I am very pleased with it. This is my second Blue Chip pick and I can't wait to get another. My guitar instructor is also very impressed by them and will have one soon.

  10. amazing playing 5 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Oct 2012

I'm always looking for the best picks, but I think I've found then now. My CT55 pick plays very smooth, sounds superbe en niver glides out of my fingers. They're not just great for mandolin picking, but equaly good, if not better, for my old D28. Love them, great job folks!!
