Product Description

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. best pick I ever touched 5 Star Review

Posted by on 31st Jan 2013

I used to have several different picks for my guitars that seemd to work best, each with a different one

now I was looking for a mandopick on the web as I had tested everysingleone that I could lay may hands on
never got quiet happy - this thing changed it all...

probably will be my number one guitar plec from now on, too

    many thanks!

  2. Still # 1 for me 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Jan 2013

I still can't find any other pick that makes the same sound as the CT 55 on a mandolin. I just bought a new mando and this is still "the one." I've used several different picks including 3 of the 60 thickness Blue Chips, but this is the pick that allows me to move between strings the easiest while producing a strong, clean, bright sound. I lost one on stage recently and felt naked for the rest of the gigs I sat in on until I got home and reordered.

  3. Great, great pick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Jan 2013

I had one of these before and traded it away (for another BC). I was glad that I finally replaced the CT55 with another, because it is an awesome pick. I got a 1-R option, and alternate between rounded and pointed edges. Both feel and sound fantastic.

  4. CT-55 and TAD60-1R 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Jan 2013

I ordered both of these picks with a round bevel. I'm a new mandolin player but a long time flatpicker. I'm really enjoying both picks and I don't really have a favorite yet. The TAD 60 has a little darker sound (especially when played on the 1R edge. But, I don't know if I could distinguish the sound if I didn't know which I was playing. Great picks...as are all the BC picks. Trick is finding the best one for you.

  5. Still Excellent 5 Star Review

This is my second CT-55. They are the best picks I have ever used, & as long as I can hold on to them, they should last a very long time.

  6. Finally found a pick I like 5 Star Review

Posted by on 31st Dec 2012

I have been searching for years for the perfect mandolin pick. Nothing ever satisfied me completely. I had heard about Blue Chip but honestly had a hard time buying the hype for a $35 pick until I tried one. A friend let me try his CT-55 and I was hooked. My fingers get moist and most picks move around, this one doesn't. The size allows a good grip and it seems to just glide through the strings without the pick noise I get from other brands. I'm a fan...

  7. Lovin' the new CT 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Dec 2012

This is my second Blue Chip pick. After playing a TAD40 as my main mandolin pick for almost two years, it is still in really good shape. I decided that I needed a bit heavier and larger version, and the CT55 is exactly what I was looking for! It felt great in my hand from the moment I picked it up. After trying tons of diferent picks, this one is by far my favorite.

  8. BEST TONE EVER 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Dec 2012

JUST RECEIVED THE CT55 AND IT DELIVERS!
WAS NOT SURE ABOUT IT'S SIZE BUT IT IS COMFORTABLE AND BRINGS OUT GREAT TONE FOR ME. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PICK FOR MANDO PLAYERS.
P.S. REALLY LOVE THE MONAGRAM-NICE TOUCH INDEED.

  9. Just the right size 5 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Dec 2012

Been using thick/heavy picks since the 1960's - my favorite was Carpe (clear plexiglass, with bevel) until they went out of business. Now decades later I've found Blue Chip picks and lo & behold, they are beveled! The CT55 is just the right size & thickness for me.

  10. Bought more 5 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Dec 2012

My worst fear was to lose the only CT-55 I owned so I bought 2 more. One for each mando case. This pick is truly worth the price. I have put it through its paces with little wear and tear. It glides off the strings while still retaining its grip-ability.
