The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

I tend to use two kinds of picks: those that give me a dark, mellow tone, and those that give me a bright, happy tone. The CT55 manages to give me that bright, happy tone while somehow still pulling out those darker undertones. And it's quite a bit louder than my other picks. There are a few songs where I opt for my old Dunlop because I don't want the volume or brightness of the CT55, but that's rare. Overall, it's a fantastic pick.

I am happy with my new CT55 picks. I was taking a chance ordering them. I don’t like an overly heavy pick. I do have a Tad 40 that I have been using for years & am pleased with it. I just wanted to experiment with something new. It worked out.

Blue Chip, hands down. While I love the sound of tortoise picks, BCs don't require the perpetual maintenance and care AND we're leaving the hawksbill sea turtles swimming in the sea. Now if Matthew is pulling the BC material from an alternate universe, we may have a different problem to deal with. But until then, I've got a backup BC pick for every one of my first-rotation picks. Guitar life (even in quarantine) is good!.

I love this pick. It sounds great, has a wonderful resonance, and feels great in my hand. My only complaint is that it is a tad heavy than I would like. Getting a softer sound on my mandolin has taken some practice. All in all, I would definitely buy again.

I think this is my fifth CT-55....I have played 30 years, I own dozens of high end picks, and they just dont stack up......I like those ole antique TS shell picks, I think these ole antique picks and Blue Chips work similar......Feel, tone etc.....But those shell picks cost double the BC's, and they are getting hard to find....The BC's are the picks for me!!

I lost my last one and ordered a replacement. The only option I would like is holes drilled in middle like a Wegan

This is the best pick ever. Sticks to your fingers somehow without feeling sticky. First night I used this thing I fell in love with it and since then I have not thought much about it since it miraculously becomes part of your hand. Worth the extra cost in my opinion.

I have used at least 10 brands of picks over the years and found this one to be the best because of how easy it stays in my hands and after 2 weeks does not even show any signs of wear, which has never been the case with any other brand or style of pick I have used.

Bluegrass/old-time mandolin player here. I've tried lots of picks -- there's no comparison. I'm sticking with this one -- brings so much volume out of my Northfield. I was somewhat worried about tremolo but no problem there either. Highly recommend.
(Also -- I had initially bought the speed bevel instead of the rounded edge one I wanted, and the return went through within days. Excellent service).
