The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

This pick has a great feel and has facilitated 2 string playing and tremolo. Worth the price.

A friend of mine invited me to try his Blue Chip at a jam session and I was impressed so I ordered a CT 55 online. From the start it felt good in my hand and seemed to glide over the strings. I also found it easier to play tremolos and double stops while it extracts a great tone from the mandolin. If like me you were doubtful at the start have faith and get yourself one, it’s a great product.

is not so clear and comfortable.

I love this pick. Yes it’s “pricey “ compared to other picks but as soon I started strumming or picking I could feel and hear the different immediately! It feels great in my hand like I’m not going to lose grip. I recommend this pick or any other Blue Chip pick. Well done Blue Chip!

I have tried to love other picks... they just don't measure up. In the end after going to all the trouble I do to build great guitars, anything but a blue chip is just not good enough!

I was afraid this pic would feel too big but was pleasently suprised at how compfortable it is. I use it to play my old Martin D18. has become my favorite.

As a long time guitar player, I foolishly decided to pick up the mandolin. After countless efforts at finding the right pick, I decided to take the plunge on the CT-55. The first couple of days, I tried to find things wrong with it but just couldn't. For my mandolin, it's the only one I'll use. It's worth every penny.

I've been using the Golden Gate and Grisman Dawg-style picks for as long as they've been around and are all I have consistently used on my mandolin. After borrowing a friend's BlueChip recently (can't even recall which model) I took the plunge and bought several. While I initially liked the CT 55, I just couldn't get used to it right away. Now, after about 2 solid weeks of use, I'm having a hard time going back to the Golden Gate/Dawg-type picks. In particular, I like the more defined corners of the CT 55 as I feel like they help in articulating notes a bit more clearly. Not crazy about the price but, in the relative scheme of things, it won't break me either. All-in-all, a great pick!

After only a month my impression is that the CT-55 is a great pick. Gives a very crisp sound as well as feel. Hard to believe how these Blue Chips "stick" to your fingers. Has encouraged a much more easy right hand grip on the pick which may lead to better tone and speed. Only reason it is not a 5 is that the TAD60 3R is my favorite at the moment but that could change the more I play both.

I've tried just about every kind of flat pick there is is over the past fifty years. Nothing else even comes close. Worth every penny and then some. I've purchased 4-5 picks over the past seven years, just had one custom made. Excellent product, stellar customer service. Thanks BlueChip!
