Product Description

Inspired by Andy Wood, the IBJ55 pick is larger than a regular Jazz pick, and smaller than a Jazz LG.  It has a universal rounded bevel and comes with 6 pre-drilled holes in the center. This pick is 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness. All of our picks are professionally machined, hand beveled, and laser etched.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

An amazing pick, I noticed the difference as soon as I played with it. In fact, I'm now going to order a spare. Thanks for a great product!

  2. Best guitar pick I've ever had 5 Star Review

This pick is the best I've ever had. It took very little time to get used to, and now no other pick compares. Great job!

I have been through literally hundreds of picks, all sizes and shapes. This is the one. I couldn’t be happier!!

  4. Holy Grail guitar picks 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Jan 2022

During my search to find the best guitar pick I tried a lot of boutique picks (Gravity, Red Bear, Purple Plectrum, JB picks, Chicken Picks, Wegen, V Picks, various Casein and imitation tortoiseshell products). I discovered BlueChip picks around 2013 when a friend lent me a TAD model. Since then I've purchased a handful of the jazz iii type picks (BC JAZZ 60s, BC JAZZ LG 60s, and now I'm trying out the IBJ55). The jury is still out on whether I like the IBJ55 or BC JAZZ 60 the best, but BlueChip is definitely the closest thing I've found to a "Holy Grail" guitar pick.

The material is the best balance I've found of sound/tone (minimal pick-touching-string sound), feel on the strings (effortless glide across strings... great for tremolo and directional picking), and not unintentionally rotating between your fingers.

These don't make playing guitar 10X easier (they are at least 10X as much $$$ as most of the other guitar picks I use), but they do make playing certain difficult picking passages easier and I need all the help I can get. I don't recommend these to young players or beginners but if you're and advanced player and can justify the cost (how much to professional violinists spend on their bows?), BlueChip might be worth checking out. Just don't lose them. I can tell you from experience that's really frustrating!

I have to say that upon reviewing said price, I was hesitant. I could not be happier with this pick. It glides over strings as if it was playing itself. Amazing!! Just effortless! The grip of this pick is incredible, never sliding between my fingers. This pick has a feel and tone that no other pick I’ve used in 45 years could come close to replicating. Truly the holy grail of plectrums. You need this pick in your life.

  6. Pick Control 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Nov 2021

I chose the BlueChip IBJ55 because it was recommended by my teacher, guitarist Alex Guerrero. The smooth defined edges and the perforations allow for better control during faster picking, and enhanced phrasing as well. I love the feel during longer sessions with reduced fatigue. Highly recommend the IBJ55 - superior quality!!

  7. my favorite guitar pick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Nov 2021

Blue Chip picks are the best sounding picks on my Martin and Collings guitars. I have several larger blue chip picks, but because there are drilled holes in it, it’s easy to hold on to. It doesn’t slip out of my fingers.
Because they are small, they are harder to keep track of. I lost my first one and had to buy 2 more! Even so, they are my favorite.

  8. This is the one 5 Star Review

Great pick. I've played a TD60 for about 8 years, mostly on the fat corner. This year I joined a wedding band and had to learn to shred - which led me to Cracking the Code and the Jazz III. A pointed tip is necessary for speed, but the tone is pretty poor (for me) on most JIII style picks - and I've tried most of the commonly available plastic JIII's this year.

The best JazzIII I've found for me up til now - for size, tone, and speed - was the John Petrucci signature. The Andy Woods is close in size to a JP; the AW is slightly wider, a bit longer, and about the same thickness. It's a nice size, as regular Jazz III's feel a bit too small for strumming. The AW tone is similar to the JP, but with that last 5% of hard to find tonal magic. You know, the Blue Chip thing.

Also, the fat corner on this pick has a great tone - very thick and warm. So this pick can cover strumming, speed, and pure tone situations. There's no longer anything holding me back when it comes to picks.

The holes are fine, I was neutral on them and I guess it's nice to have some extra security/tactile reference. They don't bother me so far.

Highly recommended, but play around with all of the cheap JIII's first if you are new to the shape - it's a big change from a fender style. At that point you'll be so stoked on your speed and so sick of terrible JazzIII tone that when the Blue Chip arrives... forget about it!

  9. Greatest electric guitar pick on the planet 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th May 2021

This may be the best pick Blue Chip makes. The grip holes are killer and zero chance of slipping on top of the natural surface grip. I love Dunlop Flow picks and to me this is closer to that pick than a jazz or jazz iii point. I haven’t had a BC jazz pick I. A while but I remember those being much pointier. You can play rhythm which this pick which is what I do. Incredible full sound and super fast. I’m buying at least another one.

  10. I don't review products - until now!!! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Jan 2021

I don't often waste my time writing product reviews, even if I like the product. Why? Because I value my time. However, once in a while, I feel so lucky to come across a product that I wish everyone could know about it. In my case, it is these guitar picks. I am a pro-level guitarist (former GIT instructor) and I own Moody Guitar Straps. When I tried these picks, I found that I picked up additional speed and articulation immediately and I like the tone from the pick when used on acoustic instruments as well as electrics. Take it from me, this pick will be your last stop in your quest for the best.
