Product Description

Inspired by Andy Wood, the IBJ55 pick is larger than a regular Jazz pick, and smaller than a Jazz LG.  It has a universal rounded bevel and comes with 6 pre-drilled holes in the center. This pick is 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness. All of our picks are professionally machined, hand beveled, and laser etched.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. Pick Control 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Nov 2021

I chose the BlueChip IBJ55 because it was recommended by my teacher, guitarist Alex Guerrero. The smooth defined edges and the perforations allow for better control during faster picking, and enhanced phrasing as well. I love the feel during longer sessions with reduced fatigue. Highly recommend the IBJ55 - superior quality!!

  2. my favorite guitar pick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Nov 2021

Blue Chip picks are the best sounding picks on my Martin and Collings guitars. I have several larger blue chip picks, but because there are drilled holes in it, it’s easy to hold on to. It doesn’t slip out of my fingers.
Because they are small, they are harder to keep track of. I lost my first one and had to buy 2 more! Even so, they are my favorite.

  3. This is the one 5 Star Review

Posted by on 15th Nov 2021

Great pick. I've played a TD60 for about 8 years, mostly on the fat corner. This year I joined a wedding band and had to learn to shred - which led me to Cracking the Code and the Jazz III. A pointed tip is necessary for speed, but the tone is pretty poor (for me) on most JIII style picks - and I've tried most of the commonly available plastic JIII's this year.

The best JazzIII I've found for me up til now - for size, tone, and speed - was the John Petrucci signature. The Andy Woods is close in size to a JP; the AW is slightly wider, a bit longer, and about the same thickness. It's a nice size, as regular Jazz III's feel a bit too small for strumming. The AW tone is similar to the JP, but with that last 5% of hard to find tonal magic. You know, the Blue Chip thing.

Also, the fat corner on this pick has a great tone - very thick and warm. So this pick can cover strumming, speed, and pure tone situations. There's no longer anything holding me back when it comes to picks.

The holes are fine, I was neutral on them and I guess it's nice to have some extra security/tactile reference. They don't bother me so far.

Highly recommended, but play around with all of the cheap JIII's first if you are new to the shape - it's a big change from a fender style. At that point you'll be so stoked on your speed and so sick of terrible JazzIII tone that when the Blue Chip arrives... forget about it!

  4. Greatest electric guitar pick on the planet 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th May 2021

This may be the best pick Blue Chip makes. The grip holes are killer and zero chance of slipping on top of the natural surface grip. I love Dunlop Flow picks and to me this is closer to that pick than a jazz or jazz iii point. I haven’t had a BC jazz pick I. A while but I remember those being much pointier. You can play rhythm which this pick which is what I do. Incredible full sound and super fast. I’m buying at least another one.

  5. I don't review products - until now!!! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Jan 2021

I don't often waste my time writing product reviews, even if I like the product. Why? Because I value my time. However, once in a while, I feel so lucky to come across a product that I wish everyone could know about it. In my case, it is these guitar picks. I am a pro-level guitarist (former GIT instructor) and I own Moody Guitar Straps. When I tried these picks, I found that I picked up additional speed and articulation immediately and I like the tone from the pick when used on acoustic instruments as well as electrics. Take it from me, this pick will be your last stop in your quest for the best.

  6. WOW!!! The search is OVER!!! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Jan 2021

You would NOT believe how many picks I have gone through - I have been on a relentless pursuit of tone and feel for literally years! I took classical and fingerstyle lessons prior to enlisting in the US Army band field in the mid 90’s. I was basically introduced to the little red pick we all know at that time. I used those for quite a while, but one of the things about the “jazz” size picks with my large hands was the ergonomic influence on the knuckles of my left hand, first finger. My hand began to eventually have pain in the picking area. I then was forced to try larger picks, which was really strange to me after about 20 years of using the “jazz” style. I tried the larger jazz styles but they seemed too big, and traditional picks were way too big for the styles of music I preferred to play. Bummed, and on a whim, I though I’d try the IBJ55 as it fits somewhere in-between the jazz and a big jazz. It was the perfect size for me! Also, no more finger pain.
I love the way Bluechip picks feel against the strings. It’s like a warm knife cutting through soft butter - perfectly smooth! No tension. They also sound incredible on acoustic guitars as well (I know all the country and bluegrass people know this already).
I also have some of the jazz sized Bluechips now. After my finger pain left, I was able to mess around with that size some more, also being sold on Bluechip now, but I still tend to stay with the IBJ55 - it just feels like home.

  7. No more slippery picks! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Dec 2020

Despite being a novice guitar player, I’ve had a thing about pics since I first started using them... I felt stupid, because here I am not even being able to play SH-T, and I’m blaming it on a pick? AS IF, right? And still, I kept navigating to reaching for smaller-sized, jazz picks, but when practicing longer than say a whole minute (BE KIND!) my pick would slip. In a Zoom meet-up of patrons of Andy Wood on Patreon, he showed us THIS pick that he uses, and I bought it on TRUST because, DUH, Andy Wood? The thing I ended up loving most about it, is that the holes also create *traction*, and that helps the pick not slip from my fingers. I thought it originally expensive for a pick, and invested in it more on faith and my life experience of “you get what you pay for”: definitely the case with this pick. I honestly play better, longer, because it’s not slipping as much. Thank you for crafting excellence.

  8. The holy grail of guitar picks 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Nov 2020

I have been playing guitar for 60 years. I have tried 100s of picks, searching for the pick that had the grip and the tone I was searching for. Simply put, the IBJ55 is exactly what I was looking for in a pick. Like other reviewers here have said, the IBJ55 has great grip, it is effortless across the strings, and has great tone. I recommend Blue Chip picks to all my guitar students. I even let them try my picks, but only if they promise not to put them in their mouth. Seriously, my very long search for the perfect pick has ended. I love this pick!

  9. Improved my playing right away! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 24th Sep 2020

I have experimented with guitar picks for the last 15 years or so. I won't go through the list of picks I have tried, but it was lengthy. I wanted one guitar pick that could do the following; (1) not sound like plastic but rather something closer to organic nail, (2) a pick I could comfortably use on electric and acoustic guitars, (3) one that kept its shape over time, and (4) one that would allow me to improve my picking accuracy as I play high speed chicken pickin' and improve my speed. I purchased these picks after watching Andy Wood play in a style that I aspire to work towards and my playing immediately improved and I am using this pick to propel me to a level that I wanted to get to - and it is happening at a very rapid pace. I bought a bunch of them!!!

  10. Best Pick Material Ever 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Sep 2020

Fantastic. My first Blue Chip pick. The material is just outstanding! I've been using the Dunlop Max Grip Jazz III's for years, and this guy has sort of a rubbery, grippy feel that is way more comfortable to hold on to. To give you an idea, this pick is the same size as the John Petrucci Jazz III, so it's slightly larger than a standard Jazz III. It has the warmth & thump of a Eric Johnson Jazz III, with some of the stiffness (but none of the chirp) of Ultex. Basically, it sounds and feels 10x better than any of them. None of the usual scrapey kind of pick noise you'd get from those cheaper plastics because of how it feels against the strings. Awesome for strumming, too! I could sense right away that using Blue Chip picks would make me play better. This particular model is a little bit large for me, so I'm going to try the Jazz60 next and maybe do a swap (maybe). Can't fault the IJB55 at all. Definitely worth checking out!
