Product Description

This is our JD Crowe thumb pick in a size large. This pick was designed by JD Crowe and constructed to his very exacting specifications. The BCT-JDL is the exact pick that JD uses. The pick bears JD's initials on the inside between the rivets. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 50/1000 of an inch(1.25mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard large thumb pick of any brand.

  1. Best pick, you need this! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 13th Apr 2022

There is no better pick, it is sound defining! If you are here, then you already know there is a hype and it is real. I did not realize how much I needed these picks until I tried to play without one, absolutely game changing.

  2. Wonderful Tone 5 Star Review

Posted by on 12th Mar 2022

I have been finger picking for a long time, however I am fairly new to using a thumb pick. Covid gave me time to learn a few new things. While I usually prefer the sound of flesh for finger picking, the tone of this pick is very warm. Now I only use a Blue Chip when I use a pick.

  3. An investment in being a better player 5 Star Review

Posted by on 31st Jan 2022

When I got my first BlueChip thumb pick a couple of years ago I spent an hour doing an A-B comparison with my plastic National. The difference in tone was undeniable and amazing. I was sold, and bought three more. I’ve grown to very much appreciate the consistent fit, comfort and reliability. No more stretching, slipping and often breaking that comes with plastic. All the glowing reviews from the pros ring true. My J.D. Crowe BlueChip thumb picks are an investment in being a better player and worth the price. After 50 years of guitar pickin' my right hand and both ears can’t thank you enough for such a great product.

  4. Not for me 3 Star Review

The pic is to long for me.

  5. Best thumb pick available anywhere! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Dec 2021

I have been using the JD model for years now. It holds it’s shape really well and the angle of the pick is perfect. These picks never get that scratchy sound like other picks do and they last a very long time.

  6. Best Thumb Pick Hands Down 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Dec 2021

When I first started using thumb picks on guitar I tried everything available. I was also picking some banjo at the time and my teacher then had mentioned Blue Chip. This is a case where both fit and tone are simply worth the cost. This pick is priceless in terms of my playing and I use on both acoustic and electric. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is even close here.

  7. Thumb pick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Oct 2021

I’ve been playing all my life and have used a lot of thumb picks but this is by far the best one I’ve ever used. I fist started using this around two years ago and it’s all I use. With my Signature picks and the
blue chip thumb pick I get the best sound out of my banjo and guitar.

  8. Solid, secure and quiet 5 Star Review

Posted by on 16th Aug 2021

I use this mostly for fingerstyle guitar; it's quieter than the thumb picks I had been using and stays on securely without squeezing my thumb uncomfortably. Because it feels more solid and secure, I'm more confident in attacking the strings, get more volume and pop. So I ordered another, just in case.

  9. Can't go wrong 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th May 2021

My Banjo teacher recommended these thumb picks. I love em! Fits like a glove~

  10. Just won't fit; too long 3 Star Review

Posted by on 6th May 2021

First off, I've played banjo for 44 years. Scruggs, Reno, melodic styles, lots of single-string stuff. I use Golden Gate thumb picks. Two things are deal breakers with this pick: the blade is too long and the metal + plastic (or whatever it is) just doesn't fit well for me. It pinches a bit at the open end and doesn't go onto my thumb as much as I'm used to. It does have a good, completely scratch-free sound, but I wish it fit better.
