Product Overview

Inspired by Russ Carson, this thumbpick is the same one he uses.  It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a talon shaped BlueChip pick.

These picks are named BCT-BR in memory of Byron Robbins. Byron was a close personal friend of BlueChip's owner Matthew Goins and an avid banjo player who lost his battle with cancer in 2018. We are proud to be able to have this small opportunity to honor him.

These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard medium thumb pick of any brand.

    Stunning Sound!

Posted by TheresaNM on 18th Nov 2025

I use a thumb pick and have tried them all. This Blue Chip pick, without a doubt produces the best sound; so clear and bright! My band mates and some in the audience have commented on the difference in sound, too. Incredible!! The metal thumb band needs a bit of adjustment for me to get the right fit. I usually play with a plastic pick, so I’m getting used to the feel of this one. It’s also expensive but so worth the investment because it’s an amazing pick.

    Perfect thumbpick

I love that the metal band fits tight enough to never slip with just enough "spring" to keep it in place, plus you can always bend it open or shut a little as your thumb swells or shrinks. And of course the tone from the material that strikes the string is excellent - can't be beat. So far ahead of typical plastic thumbpicks it's crazy. It's a lot of money, but it's worth the money.

I have always used National thumb picks and slit the inside to make raised grooves, to stop the pick from sliding off. That method is taught in the Earl Scruggs book. The Blue chip thumb pick fits my thumb securely and is comfortable! I have changed my approach!

    SIZE MATTERS

Posted by Warren Gardner on 16th Mar 2021

I own 3 or 4 BlueChip thumb picks for banjo/dobro. The only reason I did not give 5 stars, is the following. My last purchase was for a M size, as my fingers have thinned since no longer in the work force. YES, I know you can bend them a bit, but that can also change the depth of the pick portion that engages the strings. Some of us prefer a certain 'Depth' of the 'Delron Pick' without filing or grinding down the same. Other than that, there's no better choice than 'BlueChip'.

Been playing them since 2018. Awesome picks the tone is incredible. It also increased my accuracy due to them not slipping. I recommend them to everyone I meet. Great job blue chip.
