Product Description

The SR is an extremely rounded triangle shaped pick in a 50/1000th of an inch(1.25mm) thickness. The bottom corner radius is greater than the top two corners.  Our picks are all precision machined and hand beveled for the highest quality.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. the perfect marriage 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Nov 2018

this pick is perfect for pushing through mandolin strings with great tone. it seems just the right thickness and surface area. with that said, my favorite bluechip pick is usually the one I'm using at that particular time.

  2. Blue Chip Picks #1 5 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Jan 2018

I have purchased several different Blue Chip picks trying to find which was best for me. I finally came across the SR series. It is perfect in every way. The feel... the tone. The good thing is that even though I purchased 5 different picks before getting the one I liked best, the other 4 are still better sounding and feeling better in my fingers than any other pick I ever owned!!

  4. Indispensible 5 Star Review

Posted by on 20th Sep 2016

I tried one Blue Chip pick based upon recommendations from an acoustic guitar forum. I liked it and thought I would "add" it to my collection. Several years later, I have bought three more (same model) and never use anything else. It is literally an extension of my fingers/hand/arm/brain/heart/soul. Any other pick I use feels stiff, awkward and quickly unusable. I will use Blue Chip exclusively forever.

  5. SR 50 over CT 55 5 Star Review

I've always preferred the Dawg pick until now. Bought the CT 55 because of the Chris Thile endorsement but prefer the shape of the SR 50. Great grip and sound.

  6. Thickness and Size 3 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Dec 2015

I know a lot of Strictly Bluegrass pickers who love this pick , to me it has the same tone as almost any other pick such as , the fish pick , David Grismans pick and many others , although i do love the TAD-3R , it has great flexibility and a beautiful warm tone for my Gibson Fern and my Weber , i wanted to try a different one but there are not any stores around me to check them out so i had to waste $35 buck lol ... As a finishing note BlueChip picks are the best out there so far , they take hold of ur fingers and sticks to them with great playability and performance, its the only picks i use .....

  8. Brings out the best in your instrument 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Dec 2015

I was as skeptical as most others are about paying this kind of money but decided to try a Bluechip Pick after reading widely about the number of well-known players who sing their praises (including Sharon Gilchrist below).
I was using Grisman's Dawg picks but I soon found the Bluechip SR50 seemed to get a fuller and more even response from my mandolin. I am also able to play fast runs more cleanly.
I've recently also bought a CT50 which is a better shape and size for me but gives a thinner tone due to its less rounded edge.
Warning to UK buyers: on top of paying VAT and Import Duty, which I expected, Royal Mail slam on an £8.50 'admin fee'!
The pick's still worth it though...

these picks make good even tone.they glide through the strings evenly and dont make a lot of pick noise just good tone.

  10. Great for mandoin but not so much for octave mandolin 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Sep 2015

I've played with the SR50 for about a month. At first I wasn't sure the tone was better than my Dawg picks which I have beveled to my taste, but I'm now convinced that the tone is more even across all strings. I've also realised that I don't have to hold the pick so tightly, therefore my playing is more relaxed, faster runs are much less difficult and I don't get the aches that I used to.
I wish Blue Chip would give dimensions and explain their bevel options with diagrams as currently one has to guess which sort might suit (or have I missed something on the website?).
Anyway, I'm sufficiently impressed to be ordering a CT50, which I hope might be a slightly larger pick.
