Product Description

The STP is a smaller version of the TP. It is the same basic size as our Kenny Smith signature pick, but has sharper corners. The STP in a 50 thickness is the pick that Adam Steffey currently uses. This is the STP in 50/1000ths of an inch thickness(1.25mm). All of our picks are professionally machined, hand beveled, and laser etched. This pick comes with a speed bevel.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. amazing pick; fun inscription 5 Star Review

Best pick in the world. We have several and love all of them!

  2. Fantastic sounds and feel! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Apr 2021

My particular guitar is designed for fingerstyle, so it is extremely finicky with picks. I have never found a pick that sounded better than my fingers, until now! This is a small pick but not too small, I feel like it would be comfortable for anyone used to playing a jazz3 or standard size pick but if you like larger picks you may struggle. I also have TD60 and CT55 which both also sound incredible. This pick is defiantly the brighter and more articulate of the 3 and I favor it for most of my playing now, but I would be happy with all of them and after some solid playing I purchased another 3 in different varieties as I’m sure they will be just as good if not better!!

  4. Too thick for me 2 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Oct 2020

Besides being too thick, the STP 50 seems to make the guitar (Bourgeois Country Boy) quieter and even "muted". I admit, the picking action is smooth and I like that. I ordered a TD 40 hoping this will be a lot more to my liking.

  5. Best pick! 5 Star Review

I have literally tried dozens of picks of various shapes and thicknesses etc. After test driving the stp 50 I couldn’t imagine using any other pick. Easy to grip and glides through the strings. Your pick has made me and my guitar sound better!

  6. Great pick, still prefer jazz shape 4 Star Review

Posted by on 4th May 2020

3 beveled sides, same height as jazz picks, figured I’d like it but the shape is not as easy to get a consistent hold as the jazz for some reason.

If you’re used to jazz picks and want to give it a try, I’d say stick with your guns.

Couldn’t be happier. The bass and trebles are as they should be -

  8. c’etait donc ca les bluechips 4 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Mar 2020

  9. Glad I purchased this pick 5 Star Review

I would say the STP 50 is exactly between what you would call a thicker pick and a thin pick.

I actually switched to using thicker picks for both acoustic as well as electric guitar and thought I was purchasing a 'thick' pick when I purchased an STP 50. To my surprise, it was thinner that what I expected it. What I did not expect was that the pick had the feel of a thinner pick but a thicker sound. I would say this would be ideal for people that like the feel of thinner picks.

As for me, I'm going to keep using this pick as I have no complaints.

I've been using V-Picks for some time, mainly the Johnny Highland signature series pick. I grew to love the sound of that pick. So what I found is that I prefer using the bluechip pick for acoustic and prefer using the V-Pick for my electric guitar because it has a little brighter attack. The bluechip pick has a solid warm to bright mid range sound. Had I not discovered v-picks, I would have solely used the bluechip pick because in my opinion, it stands out above any pick I have ever used in my life and possibly my V-Pick

For right now, I enjoy having 2 favorite picks. My strumming has considerably gotten cleaner, faster and more accurate using the bluechip pick. It's not only the bevel on the pick that made the difference, it has got to be in the material they make these picks out of.

Oh by the way, both the V-Pick and bluechip pick stick to your fingers after a certain amount of heat/moisture has bonded with these picks. I would say the bluechip pick sticks even more firmly.

I found it interesting on the V-Pick website, they sell a tool to re-sharpen the bevel on their picks. I wonder if bluechip picks will ever do that. I'm sure a simple file could perform the task.

It's funny, the impression I get when holding these bluechip pick is that I'm holding a bar of firm clay that hasn't been fired yet, yet it's not squishy, nor -it's not hard and brittle like other picks, nor does it have a nylon feel like a jazz pick, yet the pick produces a warm yet somewhat bright and rich tone. It's definitely brighter and louder than any pick that I've ever played except my V-Pick.

My bluechip pick is definitely my prized possession. Maybe the price point has to do something with that, or just knowing the fact that more than a few Nashville players use it.
