Product Description

The STP is a smaller version of the TP. It is the same basic size as our Kenny Smith signature pick, but has sharper corners. The STP in a 50 thickness is the pick that Adam Steffey currently uses. This is the STP in 40/1000ths of an inch thickness(1.0mm). All of our picks are professionally machined, hand beveled, and laser etched. This pick comes with a speed bevel.

  1. Nicest pick I've used in a while 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Jan 2015

Was giving a master class at Steve Kaufman's Kamp last June and one of the students had a Blue Chip pick. Asked to try it and in one minute of playing I knew I wanted one. Bought a TP-50 and it proved to be too thick and dark and too large. Bought an STP-40 and loved it. The size is perfect for me. Then i got an STP-45 and love that one too. Just a little stiffer and one shade darker sounding. Two great picks to choose from. They have become my go to picks.
I guess I've written about these before here. Worth doing it again. I like your picks....DY

  2. MY FIRST BLUECHIP PICK 4 Star Review

Posted by on 12th Nov 2014

I had the chance to meet and play with Paul Williams at the Bean Blossom, Indiana Blue Festival and he said he used a STP40 so I ordered one and am amazed at the speed it gave me on my mandolin. My friend bought a 55 and she used my 40 and loved it and plans to get her a STP40. Thanks, Paul for the tip and the picking time we had.

  3. STP40- the right size pick 4 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Sep 2014

Just purchased an STP40 and have to say I really like the size. Before that I bought a TP-1R 50. They both have good tone ( but the 50 may be a bit too thick and dark sounding and the 40 may be a bit too thin. I wasn't aware that the 45 thickness was available until a friend showed me his. Hard to know until you've compared these different picks side by side what works for you. Now that I've had time to play on both I guess an STP45 would be my choice....

  4. use on my guitar and mando 5 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Aug 2014

I love this pick..have 4 of them for each of my guitars and mando. brings out the sound like none other. I like the smaller size. if you like a bigger pick especially on guitar, not for you. but works great on both for me

  5. Same as the other accolades but also an amazing, unique SIZED pick! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 13th May 2014

I've spent "too much" money on these picks, and for the reasons already well covered by others, do NOT regret it!

This review is meant to specifically and highly recommend trying at least one in this particular size. It is smaller than a TD, bigger than a jazz, triangular (so you have three tips to essentially never wear out) and it fits amazingly in the index finger tip and first knuckle!!! Just really great control and I can't believe no one else makes a triangular pick at this amazing size.

I have all three and will be buying more every few months in case they discontinue them (and to promote BC picks of course). The STP50 is probably my favorite for general acoustic flatpicking and mandolin, but the 40 is terrific for detailed strumming and electric.

  6. Blue Chip Picks are Awesome 5 Star Review

Posted by on 7th May 2014

I have played the Kenny Smith 40 for years, and decided to try the STP. Although its quality is suberb, the design(sharper point) does not suit me personally. That however, is not a negative toward the product, just a personal preference. I'll continue to play Bkue Chip ALL THE TIME.

  7. Is it Tortoise shell or what 5 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Dec 2013

I have just recently purchased a tortoise shell flat pick and am trying to get use to it however, your blue chip STP40 a very different matter as soon as I started to use it it was just like an old friend.I am able to use it on guitar and mandolin with the need to adapt. Both instrument give a brighter and better tone. This has been the answer to my prayers.Thank you

  8. Very Useful Little Pick... 5 Star Review

Posted by on 24th Sep 2013

I have been using a CT55 on several instruments with no complaints, and bought the STP40 more or less on a whim...and I'm glad that I did. I've found that it works extremely well for me for fast single string work on plectrum banjo and cigar box guitar, it's just a little bit brighter than the CT55 on those instruments but still no "pick click". I'm well pleased, and glad to add the STP40 to the tool box.
