Product Description

The STP is a smaller version of the TP. It is the same basic size as our Kenny Smith signature pick, but has sharper corners. The STP in a 50 thickness is the pick that Adam Steffey currently uses. This is the STP in 40/1000ths of an inch thickness(1.0mm). All of our picks are professionally machined, hand beveled, and laser etched. This pick comes with a speed bevel.

  1. Blue Chip Picks STP 40 5 Star Review

Posted by on 1st Dec 2015

This pick reminds me of a great amp in that it responds to every nuance of your right hand. Stays on your fingers better than any pick I've tried too. Last but not least tone may be the best quality. Will mellow out harsh sound frequencies allowing you to hear more out of chords and single notes while being easier on your ear at the same time. Simply put, I've tried a bunch of picks and since I've got this one its all I use, period. Expensive yes. Worth it? Without question.

  2. Blue Chip picks make the tone!!!! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Nov 2015

I love Blue Chip picks - they sound better than Tortoise, and they're easier to hold onto. I have them custom made for me and the folks there are super accommodating! I learned about them from my frequent picking buddies Clay Hess and Jack Lawrence. I LOVE these picks :)

Great pick. Perfect size, feel, and sound on the strings.

  4. STP 40mm 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Jun 2015

I got this one along with the STP 50mm which I prefer to the 40mm. I think I would like them both slightly smaller. The material is great and cannot be beat. The real challenge with these
great picks is not being able to test them. Even if you have played with them before like I have, it is always great to do side by side
    comparisons.

  5. Using your picks for years 5 Star Review

Posted by on 4th May 2015

I have been using one of your picks since about 2009. It saw a lot of miles and was the best pick I ever owned. Recently someone decided to help themselves to my favorite pick. They took it from my guitar after a sound check while I had my back turned. I ordered a new one but, I order one that was too small. This was the first time I actually bought one online. I tried to use the new one but it just doesn't have the feel I need. I will have to buy a larger one. For the money I have to spend, I really need to be able to try it out to make sure it works. I really can't do that with your return policy. As soon as I play one song it's voids your return policy. With a good pick, sometimes it takes an hour of jamming before you can find out if it grips right in your fingers. I will buy another one but, it won't be online. I can't afford to drop $40 on a pick I can't use. I'm sure I'll find someone around my part of the state of NC that has them so I won't have to drive 2.5 to 3 hours to get one. I can't wait to get another one that is right for me and I have done nothing but endorse your picks since 2009. I have let everyone that has come into my recording studio try my Bluechip and they are always blown away at the sound.

  6. A normal pick I can use 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Apr 2015

I had been playing Dunlop Sharkfin picks for over 30 years and was so used to the feel that standard shaped picks became impossible for me to use. It's been a real bad habit and I knew it was limiting my speed picking. I heard great reviews about these and thought I'd give the STP 40 a try. I got used to the feel after a night of playing with it and have never felt so much accuracy with picking before!

  7. Nicest pick I've used in a while 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Jan 2015

Was giving a master class at Steve Kaufman's Kamp last June and one of the students had a Blue Chip pick. Asked to try it and in one minute of playing I knew I wanted one. Bought a TP-50 and it proved to be too thick and dark and too large. Bought an STP-40 and loved it. The size is perfect for me. Then i got an STP-45 and love that one too. Just a little stiffer and one shade darker sounding. Two great picks to choose from. They have become my go to picks.
I guess I've written about these before here. Worth doing it again. I like your picks....DY

  8. MY FIRST BLUECHIP PICK 4 Star Review

Posted by on 12th Nov 2014

I had the chance to meet and play with Paul Williams at the Bean Blossom, Indiana Blue Festival and he said he used a STP40 so I ordered one and am amazed at the speed it gave me on my mandolin. My friend bought a 55 and she used my 40 and loved it and plans to get her a STP40. Thanks, Paul for the tip and the picking time we had.

  9. STP40- the right size pick 4 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Sep 2014

Just purchased an STP40 and have to say I really like the size. Before that I bought a TP-1R 50. They both have good tone ( but the 50 may be a bit too thick and dark sounding and the 40 may be a bit too thin. I wasn't aware that the 45 thickness was available until a friend showed me his. Hard to know until you've compared these different picks side by side what works for you. Now that I've had time to play on both I guess an STP45 would be my choice....

  10. use on my guitar and mando 5 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Aug 2014

I love this pick..have 4 of them for each of my guitars and mando. brings out the sound like none other. I like the smaller size. if you like a bigger pick especially on guitar, not for you. but works great on both for me
