Product Overview

The STP is a smaller version of the TP. It is the same basic size as our Kenny Smith signature pick, but has sharper corners. The STP in a 50 thickness is the pick that Adam Steffey currently uses. This is the STP in 40/1000ths of an inch thickness(1.0mm). All of our picks are professionally machined, hand beveled, and laser etched. This pick comes with a speed bevel.

    Much better tone

The tone you get when these picks are used properly is definitely better, fuller and richer than with other standard picks. It's worth the price if you value tone.

STP 40 for blugrass guitar style

Posted by JB Louwagie on 3rd Nov 2025

I recently ordered the STP 40. This is the first time I've used a Blue Chip pick. I've been playing bluegrass guitar since 1969 on a Martin D28 and a Collings DA1, and it's my profession. I've had many different picks. Despite the very high price for Europe ($35 for the pick + $21 shipping + $14 in duties), I think the sound is really very interesting and the contact with the strings is much smoother, resulting in easier playing that allows for faster tempos. I think the STP 40 is too thin and not long enough for bluegrass playing. I've ordered the TP 48 Speed Bevel Right Hand, which I hope will be much more suitable for my playing style. Returning a Blue Chip pick to the USA from Europe is complicated because you have to pay customs duties again ...

    Great pick!l

I didn’t think I could like a pick better than the TP40, which I’ve been using for a couple of years, but this pick seems a little easier to control. The beveled edges provide smooth picking and the durability is unmatched by all the other picks I have used in the past (except the TP40).
