The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

I ordered the Blue chip pic out of curiosity as I seen many recomendations on the tube.
I had high hopes for it and I am vert happy with my pic.
I mainly play mandolin and octave mandolin mainly irish trad. I have been trying out various pics.
Before I decided to get the bluechip I had settled on a 1.1mm jazz pic witch had a good sound and was stable enough but it was a bit slippery and to small.
The bluechip is is not slippery at all. It stays firmly between my fingers and as it is bigger I feel that I have great control over it.
The tone is quite clear and a bit mellow. It giver a powerful tone with lats of brilliance in the sound in a good way. I does not get any sharp overtones.
I’m glad I decided to buy the Bluechip.

All strings and instrument, no pick

This pick is amazing. My son and I both bought one. The Most amazing thing is that they are silent on the strings. Pick noise is gone. My son says he thinks there is a sorcerer who puts a spell on each pick at the factory to maker them so quiet! Great picks. Thanks for your expertise in making them.

Since I began using the Bluechip CT-55 pick a few years ago I noticed a marked improvement in my mandolin tone. And it ain’t just me, I am constantly receiving compliments on my tone. I will say that I work hard at having a consistent and unique sound; practice is a big part, but the final ingredient was the CT-55 pick.

This is the second CT-55 I have purchased. Hands down this is the best pick I have ever used. I use it for both mandolin and acoustic guitar. I particularly like the bevel on all the edges that give this pick multiple ways to attack the strings!

Really loving this pick so far. I had been using a Wegen TF140 for guitar playing, which I loved. I bought this to compare, here are some notes...
The picks themselves feel exactly the same size and thickness. Feel exactly the same in the hand as far as shape goes. Very close in overall weight as well.
Wegen of course has the holes to help with grip, but the BlueChip has that great "tackiness" or slightly sticky feel, that really helps hold it in place in your hand, especially when you're trying to not grip the pick to death.
As far as the sound, I was really surprised at how different the two sounded. The TF140 had more of a "round" or boomy overall tone, and the BlueChip has way more of an articulate, balanced, tone. Almost like you can hear each string ring individually. I think they can both have a place in my playing, as tools to create different sounds, but the BlueChip will definitely be my immediate go-to.

I bought this pick on a whim to see what "the most expensive" pick sounds like. Surprised to say it does genuinely feel better to play with, especially with double stops

I play bluegrass and blues predominantly and destroy most picks in a couple songs. This pick has gone for weeks on only one corner without any sign of wear. I also have a TD48 I have been playing for almost a year only on one corner, still no sign of wear. Like I said best pick I've ever held!!!
