The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

The Chris Thile pick is great. It’s almost as good as his picking. Unfortunately I am still not as good as him even with the pick. But I am a better singer than him, most people are though. I highly recommend this pick. I have three TP 40 blue chip picks but this is my go to pick now. I play mandolin by the way.

Such a different sound, why didn't someone tell me to get one of these years ago! No comparison to the D'Addario Chris Thile pick, in my opinion. I ended up ordering 3 of them so I'd not be without.

Just a fantastic pick: shape, thickness, and bevel. Love love love.

I'm still learning and early on my mandolin musical journey but I have tried about a dozen different picks and this one is my favorite and my go-to. A close 2nd/3rd would be the Wegen or D'addario CT casein, but this one is 1st for me. Great feel and bevel that helps give a smooth, rounded sound - not clicky. The price is a bit higher than what I'd normally be comfortable with, but the others I mentioned are about the same, so apparently if you want a quality bevel and sound you can't get it on the cheap and you do get what you pay for. If you can't get past the price, a cheaper option might be the Golden Gate Clown Barf, but those sound less smooth imho. Customer service was great. Would buy again - but hopefully won't have to for a long time.

Love this pick. The tick from hitting the string is minimal, it produces lovely tone, it feels good in the hand.

I love this pick! For me, the best thing is that it doesn’t slip out of position while I’m playing, but “sticks” to my fingers. It also strikes though the double mandolin strings with authority. My speed, accuracy and tone have all improved. The BlueChip CT55 is for real and worth every penny.

The pick is of exceeding quality and comfort. I have found myself practicing more now because I simply enjoy playing it so much!

Just finished a thorough test of the CT55 - and Wow! This is the first mando pick I've bought that didn't require ANY modification. The tone it produces is as good as my best pick beveling job (my second hobby) - actually it's better. It did, truly, improve the tone. And even better, I now have 6 (six) perfectly beveled edges to play with. No need to find the one that turned out best, I just pick up the pick and start playing. So glad I finally forked out the money to buy one. I should have done this long ago.

And yes, I still have all of them! Still the best to my ear for tone, nice on my low talent brain.... my picking is easier with the way these picks slid off the strings. I don't get hung up on strings as often!

I have played this on my modern a-style, jazz om, and old bowl-back and it has the best feel and sound on all three. I have tried many different mandolin picks and I like this one the best currently.
