Loading... Please wait...The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

I have been flatpicking for over a half-century. I have tried every pick, from real tortoise shell, to the latest high-end picks. All of them. Bluechip is alone in first place: it self-lubricates, never gets scratchy, and never warps--like a new competitor, which I won't bother with again.

30+ years of picking mandolin. Been playing this pick for the last 2 years and it’s a huge difference! The difference in tone and playability is evident right away.
Pricey but worth it!

Plays smooth and easy to take a break with.

This is the best guitar pick you will ever use. These picks never slip in your hand. They produce a warm rich tone second to none. Since I started to use these picks years ago I have never used anything else with any of my guitars. Once you get one of these picks you will never use anything else.

My favorite so far for playing both instruments. I’ve got a 40 and 50 TAD and they work and sound better than any of the picks I’ve tried but the CT55 kicks it up a notch. Definitely a warmer sounding pick than the two TADs and the slightly increased width just fits better in my hand and pushes through the strings more easily and consistently. All add up to more a more relaxed pick grip.

Even though they are friends-teasing-worth expensive, these are the bomb. Just have one (I recommend 2) and keep one in the included, optional key chain--cuz if you lose THAT, you've got bigger problems. SMOOTH, indestructible/no-wear-down, and surprisingly minimal slipping, even with sweaty hands. AND GOOD TONE.
I would say get one or two of these, and also order a 12-pack of similar Dunlop Prime Tone 1.4s for just random practicing/jamming, with less tragedy if lost (they are NOT the replacement/equivalent, though--these are REALLY good, worthwhile picks--it's just that the Prime Tones are relatively similar in size, beveling, and overall feel; but not this quality of sound and playability. (For mandolin, but also 12-string guitar and, actually, anything stringed. - Get the "speed beveled" version in any pick)

OK, my musician friends say "Whaaaat? You paid $35 for a pick?" And it is a lot, compared to other picks. But I play a $5000 mandolin, and $35 is less than 1% of that. I love my mandolin and I want it to sound its best. And no other pick sounds nearly as good. Crisp and clear, with good volume. The bevel is perfect. And it is indestructible. My mandolin has never sounded better with any pick, and I've tried them all. I consider my CT55 to be a bargain for what I am getting out of it.

I’m long time blue chip fan. What draws me to these picks is the tone, the way they slide off of the strings, and longevity. The latest pick I purchased is the CT 55. I have a tortoise pick that I love but I wear them down too quickly, they are getting too expensive and harder to find. If I loose it it’s a heartache and a headache to replace. If I lost a blue chip it will be a heartache but easy to replace and they are always consistent . Tortoise is not consistent. Blue Chips have become apart of my sound

I'm still very much an amateur at this mandolin thing, but could immediately hear the difference it has made to my tone and volume. Worth the cost!
