The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

I was at a guitar camp and one of the instructors was playing a Collings. Commenting on their price points, he mentioed that he had paid $35 for his pick. I thought he was crazy and had to prove it to myself. Before hitting a string it was apparent this was different - it felt good in my hand. And then I played with it. Wow! Who knew there could be such a difference - volume, clarity, even tone. I bought one and promptly lost it. Then I bought two more so I would have a back up for when I lose another

I love this pick. My playing feels and sounds a lot better with it than with any of the other picks I've tried. The edges remain smooth even after lots of heavy chopping and there seems to be no wear at all so far.

I have tried nearly a dozen different bluechip picks (not to mention dozens of other brands) and this pick, this shape, this thickness, this bevel... just right. Goldilocks style.

This is a great pick. It doesn't budge in your hand and it slips, cuts, slides (choose one!) through the strings very nicely. A very loose grip is possible with this pick, and when held thusly, it sounds great. Articulating fast runs cleanly is also very easy.
However, my friends and I agree that it does NOT sound like shell. I would I would say it is brighter/harsher than shell. If you're looking for a tonal shell mimic, this is not it. It compares favorably to just about all the plastic picks I am familiar with, but it doesn't have the warmth and smoothness of shell.
I would say that these picks DO wear - they're not indestructible. I was given one of these picks almost a year ago, and after maybe eight months of four hours of daily practice and a half-dozen weekend festivals, I started noticing some wear. However, it was an old, worn pick when it was given to me. With six playing edges (both sides of each of the three points), I don't think one has to worry about wearing one out. I'd peg the lifespan of these things at three years of - hard partying.
Tone: 4/5
Feel: 5/5
Articulation: 5/5
This is a very cool pick. Just don't expect it to sound exactly like shell.

Finally, a pick that meets and exceeds all of my O.C.D. expectations. It produces a tight, voluminous chop pick and a crisp, articulate single note tone that will please the pickiest picker.So....go ahead and spend another 35 bucks trying to find the perfect pick, or else get one of these babies. They will last a lifetime, require no maintenance and make you grin like am idiot every time you use it.

While I usually find signature products lacking, I believe Chris nailed the size and thickness on this pick. I tried the 50 and 60 but the 55/1000ths was juuuuussst right.
While these picks might be second in tone to tortoise, they are stronger, last longer, stick fantastically to your fingers, and are cheaper than than tortoise... not to mention any legalities or moralities associated with the latter.
Great pick!

These picks are the best thing to hit the market in a long time. The speed, accuracy and attack of my picking has been greatly improved since I began using these picks. I use the CT55 on guitar and the Reso thumb pick on the Dobro and Banjo. Great product!!! I would recommend these to any serious picker!!

This pick has improved my tonality, speed, and all around clarity. The tone produced from this pick is absolutely unbelievable! It completely tears down the walls that hinder a musician's right hand. This pick is worth every penny and I will always use BlueChip Picks from now on. It's like the pick isn't even there it's pure tone!

Yes these picks are expensive, but they are worth the price. If you tend to loose picks easily, don't spend the money. I suggest you practice holding on to one particular pick for as long as you can. If you don't loose it. then buy one. I now own two picks. Not because I think I might loose one but because I tend to forget bringing it with me. I leave one in my wallet and one in my music room.

Really jumps off the string cleanly, no noise! My second order is on the way. Great pick, I was sceptical as I've tried a lot of different picks and had settled on one I've been using for years. You'll hear the difference instantly. Thanks
