The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

In fifty years of playing, I've gone through a lot of guitars and a lot of picks. These are the best I've found. Using a CT-55 Speed Bevel, and a TP-1R 50 Round Bevel for about six weeks now, I find that, first, they stay where you put them between the fingers, and second, they play very smoothly, with a lot of variety between the corners on each pick. The CT-55 is brighter than the mellower TP-1R, so that the 55 has become my go-to for the J-45, while I like the seamless sound of the TP1R on a ES-335. Never thought that flatpicks could offer such an upgrade, but they do, and I'm sure I'll add a few more to my little nice little BlueChip box over time. Excellent purchases. If you are curious enough to be reading reviews, go ahead and try one.

I have a 50 TAD-1R, which I thought was a good pick (although I never seemed to use the rounded corner), until I got the CT55. This thing is incredible--seems like just the right thickness, with the perfect bevel. I used a Pro Plec (D'Andrea) 1.5mm, which is recommended by Mike Marshall, which sells for $1 or less. They are nice, but don't have the same bevel, seem a little too thick and don't have the grip that Blue Chip picks have. Although I'll never play like Chris Thiele, this pick is probably the best one I'll ever use. I'm a fiddler, and I always say that a $35 pick is way cheaper than a $500 violin bow.

I have been playing and teaching for almost 15 years, and nothing has revolutionized my playing like this pick. I have a mandolin that has decent tone, but was lacking in volume, and this pick delivers both in spades. They say it's the last pick you will ever buy. I disagree. After I bought mine, I only wanted more.

1st Place: I now own three of the CT-55's.
Works well for mandolin and guitar.
2nd Place: TP1-R (50 and 60)
Having one rounded corner is a must for my pick.
3rd Place: TAD-1R 60
I was very surprised at how much I like this pick. It will make your dawg bark.

The CT 55 is a great pick. It feels like an extension of my fingers. It does not slip therefore I do not have to perform the annoying pick reposition dance while jamming.
It has great tone and you can really deke in and out of the strings.

I've been searching for the perfect pick since I started playing back in '96 and now I've found it! The CT 55 gets a think and punchy tone that cuts through banjos, dobros, fiddles and mandolins and it doesn't slip out of your fingers like so many lesser picks do.
It's a must for any flat picker!

Having tried various picks of various designs and shapes i decided to go for a 'CT 55' for my 'A9' mandolin. I can tell you i made the right decision! I ordered it on the 14th of October then spent the next fourteen days waiting here in the UK. To my delight it arrived this morning (30th) and i've been playing most of the day! It feels right and most of all sounds right! well worth the (short)wait and definately worth the money!

I should've gone to a store to test out some different blue chips. I should have guessed that Chris Thile's pick would provide that very crisp, sharp sound that he gets, and sacrifices some of the warmth that a more rounded pick gets. Its a great pick, and I actually love the clarity and loudness it gives as a guitar pick, but I think I'll try to find a mandolin pick with rounder edges so I can get that "warm, full, thick, bassy" tone for chopping, tremolo, and picking. Would like to buy whatever Adam Steffey's using.

I lost my firt bluechip pick fishing. It fell out of my pocket with a bunch of fish hooks. I hope the person who finds it, plays. After the loss I ordered a new one when I got home. Wouldn't be without it.

Right from the first moment I held this pick in my fingers it was clear that this was the best pick I've ever had. Great playing, great tone, never slips out of my fingers. I ordered immediatly some more.
