The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

Over the years I've tried hundred of different picks, some with the same bevel and sized, the hardness is excellent, without getting excessive pick noise. The tone is great, as close to toroise as I've ever played without as much pick noise.

For those who search for that pretty much perfect pick, for me this is it! The thing that makes this pick special is the way it warms to your skin and doesn't slip. I have a bag full of picks of every brand and material and this is the first I have really gotten the results i have been searching for. Granted an expensive product, but in this case I feel my money gave me what I was looking for all these years so it was well spent. The small leather pouch for storing the pick is a good investment as it keeps it secure in your pocket or wallet. I did lose one but since obtaining the carrier that problem is solved as well. The hardest part of the purchase is selecting the shape and thickness, but they allow an exchange if your not satisfied. Once you find the right combination you will be sold, my primary instrument is guitar but I also use the picks for mandolin....... Very Good Product.

A bit heavier than I thought, but should work very well on bass. Very slick and smooth with no scratchy sound on the strings. I see where they are now offering to put your name on the picks - I wish I had waited!

I have tried several different brands and sizes of picks and the CT55 is my favorite. I read many reviews before taking the leap on my first one and decided to give it a try. Specifically, the larger size and the shape give me a positive and comfortable contact with the strings. I liked it so much, I bought a second one for my other mandolin.

I got a TAD pick from Bluechip & have been very pleased with it, but I had a chance to try out a couple of the CT picks from some other pickers, & really liked them, so I got one. I have only played it for a month or so, but there is something about it that I think lets me get off the string a little faster & cleaner than the TAD (which has gone missing - bummer). I give the CT-55 1R that I ordered a full endorsement.

I was dubious that a pick could make such a huge difference in the sound of my mandolin, but I ordered one anyway because I'd heard good things. When I tried it out, I was absolutely amazed. My strings ring like never before, and the "new" tonal quality is nothing short of breathtaking. I'm totally sold. I'll never be able to play my instrument again without one of these picks!

I like the way the pick glides across the mandolin strings. The generous pick size seems to serve almost the same as a bow would maximize surface area over violin/strings, etc.
Any way you pick it, this thing is a heavy hitter, but smooth as silk for the most technical phrases. Really helps bridge the gap between strings too! Love it!

In fifty years of playing, I've gone through a lot of guitars and a lot of picks. These are the best I've found. Using a CT-55 Speed Bevel, and a TP-1R 50 Round Bevel for about six weeks now, I find that, first, they stay where you put them between the fingers, and second, they play very smoothly, with a lot of variety between the corners on each pick. The CT-55 is brighter than the mellower TP-1R, so that the 55 has become my go-to for the J-45, while I like the seamless sound of the TP1R on a ES-335. Never thought that flatpicks could offer such an upgrade, but they do, and I'm sure I'll add a few more to my little nice little BlueChip box over time. Excellent purchases. If you are curious enough to be reading reviews, go ahead and try one.

I have a 50 TAD-1R, which I thought was a good pick (although I never seemed to use the rounded corner), until I got the CT55. This thing is incredible--seems like just the right thickness, with the perfect bevel. I used a Pro Plec (D'Andrea) 1.5mm, which is recommended by Mike Marshall, which sells for $1 or less. They are nice, but don't have the same bevel, seem a little too thick and don't have the grip that Blue Chip picks have. Although I'll never play like Chris Thiele, this pick is probably the best one I'll ever use. I'm a fiddler, and I always say that a $35 pick is way cheaper than a $500 violin bow.

I have been playing and teaching for almost 15 years, and nothing has revolutionized my playing like this pick. I have a mandolin that has decent tone, but was lacking in volume, and this pick delivers both in spades. They say it's the last pick you will ever buy. I disagree. After I bought mine, I only wanted more.
