The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

This is my fourth Blue Chip pick and I really like it. Great volume and tone out of my Gibson mandolin! I am well pleased. Keep up the good work!

Love the picks. Wish the didn’t cost so much or I’d buy me one too. Last I bought was for my husband for his mandolin. Also I wish there were other color options. Love the brown but impossible to find if dropped.

I bought my first CT 55 on a lark, figuring that Chris Thele knows what he is doing. The pick enabled me to improve my speed and articulation. For example, I have been wrestling with Big Sandy River on mandolin for a few weeks. Before the CT-55 I could only play it at about 50% speed, soon after switching to the CT-55 I was able to increase the tempo to 75% of the original. The tone is wonderful as well. BTW, the day I received this pick and started using it, I immediately ordered a second one.

Probably my all around favorite pick for flatpicking guitar. Provides just enough flex to get a snap, but is stiff enough to pull all the tone you need. Killer for mandolin as well, obviously.

I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I had
To find you I'd suffer anything and be glad
I'd pay any price just to get you
I'd work all my life and I will
To win you I'd stand naked, stoned and stabbed
I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had

It may seem expensive but you are really buying three picks. Anyway, I have not found a similar sound. 100% recommended

Great sound, and tremolo

I forgot my BlueChip at home for a gig this weekend and spent the entire time cursing my tortex backup pick. Will never do that again! The BlueChip glides more smoothly for tremolo, produces a fuller sound, and is easier to hold than any other pick I’ve ever tried.

I've been finger picking for 54 years and have always found a way, both acoustically and electrically, to manage without picking up a plectrum. Not consciously prejudiced mind you, just didn't see the value. Now I've decided to learn the mandolin. After a couple of weeks of attempting to become the world's only finger picking mandolin wonder, i gave in. I started with a 7mm delrin because it didn't slip and it had a lot of flex which I thought would help with tremelo picking...wrong. Against all my intuition I followed others advice and tried the CT55. I haven't got enough experience to have earned much in the way of credibility, but this is the flat pick I'll be sticking with. I'm even trying it out on a few guitar numbers. I thought the stiffness would limit me. Just the opposite is true. I know right where I am and I'm there on time. Thanks BlueChip.

Heard about the Blue Chip CT55 on the Beer and Mandolin podcast; purchased one; love it.
