Product Overview

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

    Best pick?

Posted by Jason Crum on 14th Jan 2021

I don’t hand out 5 star reviews often. I’ve been struggling to find the perfect picks for 28 years. I’ve played mostly Dunlop nylon picks because they always hit the notes but to my ears sounded thin. I played larger acrylic picks that felt great in my hands but always sounded a little dead to me. After watching a YouTube video from 5 Watt World I decided to do the insane thing and spend $35 on a single pick. When I got the pick I was singlehandedly overjoyed and devastated at the same time. Overjoyed, because the pick feels and sounds amazing. It hits each note with full clarity and body all the while never feels like it’s gonna slip out of my hand. Devastated, because this means I was gonna have to buy another and I don’t like spending $35 for a single pick! But the good FAR outweighs the bad for me. Thank you for making such a great product!

    I'm sold

I have used BlueChip picks for many years. My main instrument is guitar, so I have always used the TD series, mainly a 50. I started playing mandolin during the pandemic, and decided to give the CT55 a try. Wow, I was impressed! I use it on both the mandolin and guitar now. Give it a try, you want regret it.

    Great tone!!

Posted by Deane Crump on 5th Jan 2021

Well, I never thought I would pay $35 for a pick but I’m on my 3rd CT55. I lost two on a couple of very sad days. The beveled polished edge slides of the strings so cleanly that there is no pick noise and the very hard material make the strings ring like a bell!!! Worth the money

    Exceeded expectations

Posted by Adonis on 4th Jan 2021

I got the pick to try on the greek bouzouki because of the good reviews from mandolin players even though, I have never played with a pick this thick. It exceeded expectations. It is fast and gives a very rounded, fuller sound. I will buy some more to give to professional bouzouki players who are curious to try.

    Love These Blue Chip Picks

Posted by WILLIAM E GRAY on 30th Dec 2020

I bought a Blue Chip CT55 for myself awhile back and loved it so much I decided to give a couple as Xmas presents. My guitar playing friends say they also love the picks, which I knew they would. Great feel and tone, and they should last a long time. I use mine on both my acoustic and electric guitars.
