Product Description

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. Great to have this option 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Feb 2021

On mando I am a TAD1R-60 disciple but on guitar I use 40's and 50's and I can tell you that a few thousandths of thickness makes a surprising difference in tone. It is great to have this 55 option for some tunes and I have enjoyed using it.

The pick is great! I wanted a good pick when I started to play. Worth the price.
I only play with one pick and I keep up with it. I have spent more money on less!

  4. Best pick I have ever used. 5 Star Review

Great bevel, smooth in both directions, satisfying 'twang' and sticks to the fingers. After 3 months of daily use, guitar and mandolin, I can't detect any wear.

Best pick I have ever owned. Works great with Guitar, Mandolin, and Irish Tenor Banjo!

I was hesitant because of the price, but worth every penny.

I wish I had ordered the leather pick pouch.

  8. Best pick? 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Jan 2021

I don’t hand out 5 star reviews often. I’ve been struggling to find the perfect picks for 28 years. I’ve played mostly Dunlop nylon picks because they always hit the notes but to my ears sounded thin. I played larger acrylic picks that felt great in my hands but always sounded a little dead to me. After watching a YouTube video from 5 Watt World I decided to do the insane thing and spend $35 on a single pick. When I got the pick I was singlehandedly overjoyed and devastated at the same time. Overjoyed, because the pick feels and sounds amazing. It hits each note with full clarity and body all the while never feels like it’s gonna slip out of my hand. Devastated, because this means I was gonna have to buy another and I don’t like spending $35 for a single pick! But the good FAR outweighs the bad for me. Thank you for making such a great product!

They are great to deal with.

  10. I'm sold 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Jan 2021

I have used BlueChip picks for many years. My main instrument is guitar, so I have always used the TD series, mainly a 50. I started playing mandolin during the pandemic, and decided to give the CT55 a try. Wow, I was impressed! I use it on both the mandolin and guitar now. Give it a try, you want regret it.
