Product Description

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. Great tone!! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Jan 2021

Well, I never thought I would pay $35 for a pick but I’m on my 3rd CT55. I lost two on a couple of very sad days. The beveled polished edge slides of the strings so cleanly that there is no pick noise and the very hard material make the strings ring like a bell!!! Worth the money

  2. Exceeded expectations 5 Star Review

I got the pick to try on the greek bouzouki because of the good reviews from mandolin players even though, I have never played with a pick this thick. It exceeded expectations. It is fast and gives a very rounded, fuller sound. I will buy some more to give to professional bouzouki players who are curious to try.

  4. Love These Blue Chip Picks 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Dec 2020

I bought a Blue Chip CT55 for myself awhile back and loved it so much I decided to give a couple as Xmas presents. My guitar playing friends say they also love the picks, which I knew they would. Great feel and tone, and they should last a long time. I use mine on both my acoustic and electric guitars.

Has a great feel and sounds even better. Provides and smooth glide through the strings and can dig in hard with strong dynamics.

  7. Blue Chip Pick Great for Mandolin! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Dec 2020

I’ve tried many, many picks over the years and have settled on the Blue Chip for playing bluegrass mandolin. Recently I lost mine. I had to go back to my bowl full of other brands but none of them felt and played as well as the Blue Chip. I even ordered an entirely new type of pick that I hadn’t tried before but it didn’t work for me either. This experience reaffirmed my belief that the Blue Chip is entirely worth the cost.
It’s large enough to hold on to without moving around on me. It’s hard enough to produce a sharp bright sound. The beveled edges allow for the quickness I want and also helps me deliver a nice tremolo when needed. Did I mention the ‘chop’? My Blue Chip pick gives me all I need to deliver to deliver that too!

  8. Had to buy my Preacher and Friend one 5 Star Review

  9. First time Bluechip pick owner/user! 4 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Dec 2020

CT55, a nice pick. I had put off buying a Blue Chip pick for many years until recently. Our home was destroyed by a fire on Labor Day and we lost everything we owned, including instruments and picks. One of the first things I did with our first insurance check,Almost as good as a organic pick, but a little slippery and takes some getting used to.

  10. Best Pick Ever!!! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 13th Nov 2020

This pick is easy to grip, beveled, and brings the perfect tones out of my guitar. It also seems like it will last a long time.
