Product Description

This is our JD Crowe thumb pick in a size small. This pick was designed by JD Crowe and constructed to his very exacting specifications. The BCT-JDL is the exact pick that JD uses. The pick bears JD's initials on the inside between the rivets. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 50/1000 of an inch(1.25mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard small thumb pick of any brand.

  1. worth the cost 5 Star Review

I've only been playing banjo about a year, but have been plagued by string scraping from the plastic thumb picks I've used. The noise was completely eliminated when I started using this pick. It also fits very nicely, and I have very thin bones. As long as I manage not to lose it, as I am prone to doing, it will have been well worth the $40! Good job Blue Chip.

  2. Wife's Christmas present 5 Star Review

Posted by on 6th Jan 2014

My wife, Virginia Lee Blood, guitarist and singer with Mixt Company, plays Lester Flatt style rhythm, and wears out regular thumb picks quickly. Last Christmas I bought her a Blue Chip thumb pick and she loved it. Unfortunately, she lost it and has had to "make do" with a regular thumb pick. So finally this Christmas rolled around and I made myself the hero and ordered her one of these new J.D. Crowe picks...she absolutely loves it, so I'm the big hero again (along with you guys at Blue Chip). And I use them for my mandolin also. Thanks for a great product...

  3. This is actually a breakthrough product 5 Star Review

I purchased a JD-M on a friend's recommendation, and couldn't be happier. Besides the fact that plastic picks usually only last me 2-3 weeks, if they're tight enough not to slip, they cut off my circulation. The Blue Chip fits perfectly, is much more comfortable, and I don't have to take it off every few songs to get the blood flow back. It's worth the money.

  4. A great thumb pick that LASTS! 5 Star Review

It is ridiculously difficult for a fine-boned banjo player to find a good thumb pick, but this is the one for me. (OK, I still had to scrunch it a bit tighter with pliers, but it worked and stays in shape.) Hardly any pick noise, comfortable. I used to grind off the tip of a Golden Gate every 3 weeks, but I've used one of these for 18 months, 10-15 hours intermediate student use a week, and only minimal wear at the corners. I get more control given the tip's strength. I've tried several other thumb picks, but this is the one I recommend and is worth the extra upfront expense given its longevity.

  5. What an incredible pick !! 5 Star Review

I have been patiently waiting for this pick for over 3 weeks. Living in West Australia, post from the USA takes forever. But gee the wait was so worth it. I was a bit sceptical
about paying $40 for a pick , but the reviews seemed positive so I took the plunge.
Well!! It is simply amazing .The tone is so full ,and the pick noise minimal.I am so happy that I took the plunge, it is worth every dollar. The size is good for my petite thumb, although it could be fractionally smaller, but it still deserves 5 stars.
