Product Overview

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

The Very Best Pick On This Planet

Posted by Greg Morton on 10th Jul 2013

I have been playing the acoustic guitar primarily Bluegrass for the past 42 years. I've tried tortoise shell and almost every pick that's been made. I've heard great testimonials about the Blue Chip pick by friends like Roy Curry a 2 time National Guitar Champion so I thought this pick must be a good one. I ordered the CT 55 and firstly was surprised about the very fast delivery then I gave this pick a try on my Clarence White Model Martin D-18 I could not believe how Amazing this CT 55 pick responded !!! Smooth, Clear and the tone was absolutely Beautiful. I highly recommend this Blue Chip pick to all musician. I only wish they were available when I first started playing 42 years ago! Thanks Blue Chip, Cheers, Greg Morton

    The Best

I have tried many picks searching for "The One" and this is it. I try others but seem to always come back to this one. The price is worth the result. Thank you.

    WOW

I thought I should have my head examined for paying $35 for a pick, but after playing one for a few months, I am convinced that they are under-priced. Go ahead and spring for the $4 pick case too, put it on your key ring, and you will not lose your investment. It really impresses your band-mates when you crank your car up!

    Best so far but expensive

Posted by Angus Baxter on 29th May 2013

After trying several different picks this is the best (by a short head) but getting one in UK is expensive with VAT and Customs dues and such. Otherwise good all round tone and the pick does stick very gently to the fingers which helps with speed picking

one of the best picks ever made!!!!!!

The CT55 is an awesome pick. All of the Bluechip picks I have used have been great. The thickness of the CT55 gives the guitar great tone and it stays on my hand and don't move which is a great characteristic of these picks. As long as you don't lose the pick. It will last forever. It is well worth the 35.00

    Yeah, it's worth it.

If you're anything like me, the idea of spending $35.00 on a pick seemed more than a little silly. After trying Blue Chip picks, however, I am fully persuaded that they are worth every nickel. If you spend about ten minutes with one, I think it's likely that you'll agree. I've tried a couple and have settled on the CT55 as my go to pick when playing my D-18GE. On the occasions when I use a pick on my 000/OM sized guitars, I prefer the TP 50. These picks are virtually noise free and slide off the string more smoothly than any pick I've ever used. They bring out a nice round tone, and play very fast. I can't recommend these highly enough.
