The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

Blue chip picks produce unmatched tone for non turtle shell picks. The way that they stick to one's fingers means that is no problem with the pick rotating between the fingers or being dropped. I wish that they were a bit less expensive though. Whenever I lose one it's a $35 loss.

worth it.

Tortoise shell has always been my choice of pick material for the past 63 years. I own a custom-made $70 shell pick. The Blue Chip pick is a better pick. It is all I ever use.
Thank you for this great product!

I am a great fan of these picks. To anyone who is convinced of the tonal benefits of Blue Chips (which are obvious upon first strum) but having a hard time stomaching the price: they last forever, as far as I can tell (I'm going on 5 years with my first CT 55 and it looks basically brand new), and you're a lot less likely to lose a $40 pick than a $3 Golden Gate. I used to lose picks left and right but haven't had that problem since I decided to invest in one of these. Funny how that happens... overall, a wonderful product and one I would highly recommend.

This is by far the best pick I've ever used thus far in my 20 years of playing music. The tone, material, and grip quality are well worth the money. It's really the perfect pick for mandolin. I do find it a little lightweight for bluegrass guitar in a live situation, but for the mandolin it sings. Overall, I will recommend this pick over any other brand on the market.

After playing with Jazz III's for years on electric & acoustic guitars, I had been in the process of switching to a larger pick to be able to really pull sound out of an acoustic instrument before I finally invested in a Blue Chip. That being said, the CT55 is the largest pick I've played with and didn't come without a period of getting used to it. But now that I'm there, its as though some of the things I've been meaning to play (from an improvisational perspective) are no longer lesser approximations and I've actually surprised myself a few times, which is a great sign. The playability of this pick has certainly informed my technique in a new way, so I'm more often executing what's in my head and feel closer to my instrument than ever before! Also, this pick showed up two or three days after I ordered. Great service! Thanks a lot!

The size, hardness, shape, and edge cut make this the most versatile mando pick I've ever used. How nice it would be if I could afford more than one ...

The Bluechip CT55 is the perfect pick for mandolin, it meets the challenge of every gig and increases playability. It has a superior tone to other picks offering a perfect pick to string relationship without feeling cumbersome, thus maximizing the integrity of every musical moment. I love the grip quality of the material.
The CT55 is a little lightweight for my guitar playing. I play huge rhythm guitar runs on a D28 through a single band mic in sonically challenging bluegrass situations, so I'll be purchasing either a TAD80 or TAD100 for an added edge on acoustic guitar.

My CT55 delivers the best tone and response I've ever gotten from my mandolin. Fast off the strings, low resistance, great tone, clear articulation and easy to grip.
If you think this is too much to pay for a pick then consider how much you actually spend on picks and it will make sense.
Great customer service and fast shipping.

I was skeptical at first. However, after trying my first Blue Chip Pick a year ago, I now have three because they are simply the best.
