Product Overview

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

    The best. Period.

It's hard to say enough great things about BlueChip and the CT-55 in particular. I've ordered many of these picks over the past two years and have been astounded each time by the consistency and quality. If you're thinking about buying a new guitar, I would say wait and get a BlueChip first - your sound will improve dramatically for a fraction of the price!

    Absolutely my favorite pick!

Great pick, my #1 choice for back-up guitar in an oldtime band! The sound coming from my guitar seems 'cleaner,' with less pick noise. The pick seems to come off the string quicker and with less effort moving to the next position, so I feel as if my runs have become more complex and confident. The thumbpick is also an improvement over previous choices. The pick feels more secure on my thumb, and the rounded tip is a better profile for my fingerpicking style. Great products!

The CT55 Blue Chip pick is the best pick I've ever owned. It provides excellent playability in fast picking, and strumming. Also it gives an amazing tone on any instrument.

    even better than the hype

Posted by Marc Montefusco on 19th Oct 2015

I bought my first CT-55 over 4 years ago, and have used it almost every day since. I finally detected minute signs of wear and ordered a back-up recently, but the original still serves me well, especially after re-beveling. Every good thing you hear about this pick is true: miraculously clings to the fingers without feeling sticky, glides effortlessly over the strings, allows an unprecedented degree of control with a minimum of intrusiveness. I have become a Blue Chip evangelist as well as a Blue Chip user.

    Sticky thumb

Posted by Sarah Morrow on 23rd Sep 2015

It's as though the bluechip is stuck to my thumb and that couldn't be better for my growth and development as a mandolinist. My accuracy and tone aren't half as good when I use something other than my CT55.

    As good as it gets

The Chris Thile Blue chip pick is a cracker. It's easy to hold, doesn't slip, fast as hell and toneful (is there such a word?). I love it and recommend it to all. It isn't going to help you play like Chris but it just may help you play like you're meant to.
