The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

Since switching to the CT55 I've gained significant speed, flexibility and accuracy on the mandolin. And being able to order a custom bevel means that I can get as much or as little top end as I want. I'm converted!

I bought the CT-55 for two mando players on my gift list and both were delighted! Blue Chip has been great to deal with and beyond my expectations in fulfilling the orders and prompt and great service. I'm playing a BCT-JD and bought a spare to make sure I don't have to be without it! They're worth every nickel! Thanks, Guys!

I'm just an average intermediate player. I was at the first Saturday bluegrass jam in Magnolia, TX, when a fellow mandolin player, one a lot better than I, began to rave about his Blue Chip pick. My jaw hit the floor when he said how much he had paid for the pick. I have tried a variety of picks, even the vaulted Golden Gate pick, and to me an inexpensive pick seemed just as good as its pricey brethren. But a Blue Chip is not a brother to an inexpensive pick. Heck, it's not even a first cousin. We're talking about a three times removed famous relative here. The Blue Chip CT 55 has great volume and glides over the strings, even for an inexperienced player such as myself. I swore that I would write a bad review if the pick did not live up to the hype, and here I am, another skeptic turned believer in the almighty Blue Chip difference. This pick is worth the price.

Without doubt Blue Chip picks are awesome. The quality of feel against the strings is noticeably different to other picks and it makes a genuine difference to your playing.
Only problem is Blue Chip stated offering free engraving just after I bought mine. Bummer!!!

ct55 is a awesome pick to my surprise, I was looking
for a clear tone, and this pick did just that, more bassy sound,
but I tend to like something a little thiner, since I play more rythem following the banjo. so I ordered a tad 40 whitch is a 1mm, ,but the ct55 is 1.4mm, is a great sounding, picking at home by myself, its really hard to chose a pick,so I have about
$80 bucks of picks to choose from, THANKS ALLEN,
THANKS MATT,-GARY"RICK"PHILLIPS

Though I'm just a beginner when it comes to playing mandolin, I notice a HUGE difference between the CT-55 and all my other picks. Big difference in both feel and sound. Helps my technique AND my enjoyment! Never would have thought that a little bitty thing like a pick could make such an amazing difference.

I don't know what to say other than I was as skeptical as anyone who is used to picks being cheap and replaceable, but now that I've played with a pick that brings so much to the table tonally, that is so much fun to play and that brings with it so much subtlety, I can never go back. Since I learned to play fingerstyle, picks seemed to only be able to offer volume...and at the cost of so much tone that it wasn't even worth using one. But this pick makes me never want to put it down. Consider me a lifelong customer.
