Product Overview

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

Blue Chips picks are the best.

Posted by Tom Sanderson on 12th Aug 2016

I have been using vintage tortoise shell picks made from antique shell for over 20 years. Recently I tried a friends CT55 and was amazed that the tone was as good or better than the tortoise shell. I destroyed the tortoise picks and bought 2 CT55 picks. I have been playing mandolin for almost 45 years and have tried many picks. Blue Chip picks are by far the best I have used. Tom Sanderson

    Dawg to BC

Happy with the grip and sound. Prefer the SR 50 for it's similarity to the shape of the Dawg pick.

    Fantastic

I haven't tried any other BC picks aside from the CT55, but I HAVE tried a great many other brands of picks - and this one is the best by FAR. I love the feel, size and 'stickiness' of it. Not sure what it is about the material BC uses but this pick appears to be indestructible. Other picks wear out/serrate along the leading edge, but I've used one CT55 pick for 2 years (I play everyday) and it still looks brand new. No wearing at all on the edges. Just amazing. Well worth the price.

Last pick you will ever buy.

So impressed with this pick that I ordered a backup in case I ever lost mine. Gonna keep using the original CT55 until I loose it cause it never wears out. Now using it for the 3rd year.

Never thought I would spend $100+ on three picks, I work hard for my money. But I love them

I'm not sure whether it is the Chris Thile CT55 pick or my Steve Kauffman books with cds - but I'm faster. My wife purchased two blue chips picks for christmas - two different ones to see which one I would like. I returned the second blue chip pick (can't remember which one it was) and got another CT55 - love it. Lost one of my picks about six months later while working on my truck. Looked everywhere for it. Was so upset - my wife bought me another one and had it engraved with my telephone number and name. I keep a spare. Never thought I would spend $100+ on three picks, I work hard for my money. But I love this CT55 for mandolin bluegrass.

    Best Pick!

Not only it helps the Mando rung like a bell... It makes all my other stringed instruments sound better.

    Best of all.

Just the best. Mandolin sounds great. Gives it a very good tone. I have a Pava and a Gibson A2.

Try to find a better pick, good luck

I love my CT55. It reduces the string click, adds volume, and allows me to play smoother than other brands I have tried.
