Product Description

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. CT 55 tryout 5 Star Review

Posted by on 28th Apr 2016

After reading a lot of good reviews from others I decided to give the BlueChip pick a try. Wasn't sure which one would be best for me so after measuring what I had been using I decided on the CT 55. I like the size and thickness and the angled edges are helping me learn to get a consistent tremolo. I have a Dremel tool and I etched my initials in the center and this gives the pick a little more grip.

  2. T-riffic Pick! 5 Star Review

This plectrum is great! When it heats up in your hand it sticks to your fingers even more. The large size and more aggressive bevel of the Chris Thiele CT custom is sooo much better for me personally. The cost is high for a pick, but it will be the best investment in your performance you can make for $40... Spend the extra $5 and get it engraved with your phone number...

  3. Plays like butter 5 Star Review

Much louder than regular picks, with less effort. I'll have to order a slightly rounded one (SR50?) later for strumming. But for now, the CT55 is perfect for fast, single-note solos. The low notes buzz on my mandolin, but not when I use the CT55.

  4. This Pick Makes a Big Difference 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Apr 2016

The very high cost of the pick ensures you will mindful of it at all times. My teacher offered to let my try his and it was somehow better and indeed did make my guitar sound better somehow. I highly recommend this pick and all my friends who play have stated the same. My recommendation, try it. You will never want to use a $2.00 pick again. And I'm pretty sure you won't misplace this pick either.

  5. Looking for 65 years---found it! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 1st Apr 2016

It's hard for me to understand how so many folks will spend just loads of money for an instrument, and then use a 50-cent pick.

I began using a pick in 1950---tried almost all. These are the best.

  6. No. 55 Guitar pick stays put. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Mar 2016

I don't know what the secret to this guitar pick is, all I know is I don't ever drop it. It stays put between my thumb and finger even though it has a slick surface. I liked the larger size and the stiff firm feel so much I bought a second for my mandolin.

  7. Quality is $35.00 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Mar 2016

I regret to say that I lost my original CT55 pick, and was quick to order a replacement. Having lost one, I now discovered I cannot live without the exceptional feel, precision, and tone I get from this mandolin pick.

  8. Perfect feel 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Mar 2016

I have the TAD 50 and this CT-55 is slightly thicker which makes a big difference in the confidence of the stroke. It seems like just a little less effort to get a nice sound from the strings. I like both.

  9. After 65 years of searching.... 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Mar 2016

Having had a pick in my hand almost every day for 65 years now, the model CT-55 is the best---even beats tortoise shell (really)! My thanks to Blue Chip for such a wonderful product.

  10. big 5 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Feb 2016

This was my first BC and I made a mistake when I ordered the bestseller .... I was thinking when everyone is liking the CT 55 I can't go wrong, but I have never played a large pick like this before and Im using the pick for my new gibson les paul traditional electric
When I got this pick first, I was not convinced or impressed in the first minutes of using it. How ever, that changed quickly after getting adjusted to the size and it was so much fun to play with - after a day I decided to order my next BC pick and my next and my next and so on.... After having tried 6 different picks now I figured out that the CT 55 is probably better for mandolin than for electric guitar and I exchanged it for my favorite pick form the Jazz and Jazz LG in different thickness ---- I was considering keeping the CT because it gives you another tone quality, but I wanted to check out the Jazz 80 too and I have already spent $ 200 on picks and don't wanted to add another $ 100 ..... How ever --- CT 55 is a winner too but I have not played it a lot because I prefer the other shapes more
