Product Overview

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

    Fantastic Pick

Posted by Mike Watkins on 30th Jun 2018

This is a great pick. I have been using it for a few months now. It is comfortable to hold and does not slip, which gives it a very accurate string attack. For most of my life I have used medium thickness picks just for helping with the ability to hold onto them easier. This is a much thicker pick, but is easier to hold than any pick I have used before. It gives a clean sound without string scratch. I will buy it again.

    CT55

Seen a video of Joey Landreth recommending this pick. For acoustic guitar this is the best sounding pick that I have ever used. For electric guitar not much different than some of my favorites but still sounds great. I got a second one for Fathers Day, the TD40, and it sounds just as great. Worth every penny. Highly recommended!

hands down best on the market

Posted by Sean Fazzini on 1st Jun 2018

Took me a year to become keen on the idea of spending so much on a single pick, but man am I glad I did! I also never review products, but the quality of this thing is unreal. It’s more fun to pick! My mandolin has become warmer, more responsive, and I feel like I grip this pick better than any other. Y’all got a lifer!

    The Greatest

Posted by Jay on 30th Apr 2018

I'm on my 5th or 6th CT55 (because I keep losing them). This is by far the greatest mandolin pick, IMO. Perfect weight & bevel, does not wear down, + has great feel & superior tone. I also use it on guitar + e-mando.

Switching from STP 60 pick to this CT55 - Love it!

Posted by Ken Collier on 25th Apr 2018

I've been using Blue Chip picks w/ my mandolin for years. I've always liked my STP 60 for a nice full sound. However, I recently got a chance to play the larger and slightly flexier CT55 and fell in love. The large size is easier to grip and gets my fingers away from the strings. I don't notice the thickness difference much, but I can really dig in w/ this new pick and control the tone much better.

    Clean up your sound

Posted by Terry A Vital on 23rd Apr 2018

Seems the pick spends more time helping generate clear musical tone rather than pick friction. Once you round the tip out to your liking (the current pick angles are too sharp for my taste), the tone gets nicely cleaned up. Smooth, warm sound. Perfect!

My go to pick from here on out.

I know... are you kidding me? 35 bucks for a PICK? Well... it's a pick, but it's more than that, it really becomes part of the instrument. This CT-55 Blue Chip pick gives you amazing dynamic range and absolute control over your sound. The sound of the pick is neutral, as there is almost no pick noise as you strike the strings. It really brings out the true natural sound of my Martin HD-28 guitar. The pick is not slippery in the hand and I do not worry about it slipping out of my thumb and finger. I have tried the NuTone protein picks... they sound good, but they break all the time... and I have easily broken 35 dollars worth of those picks... that is not going to happen with the Blue Chip CT-55. Try one... if you are like me, you will not mind the cost, as long as you don't lose it!
