Product Overview

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

    There is a “best pick”.

Posted by Chuck on 22nd Jul 2025

I have been playing acoustic and electric guitar for over forty years. I’ve used about everything out there from tortoise shell when I was starting out, to brass, wood and everything in between. This really is the best pick I’ve ever played. I can easily hold and maneuver it for fast to light or aggressive playing, effortlessly. The material this pick is made of is very smooth, yet it’s easy to grip. Maybe it’s the price, but I haven’t dropped it on stage or lost it yet. Thank you Mr. Goin and team for such a superb product…new customer for life.

    great pick

Smooth action. Good tone. A bit pricey, but certainly lives up to the hype. (Now, if I can just keep from losing it…)

I haven’t put it down yet!

Posted by Paul on 7th Jul 2025

I was skeptical that a blue chip pick could really have much difference from my regular Tortex pick. I immediately loved the feel and sound and I haven’t used my plastic picks since. I did do some A/B testing and it’s close, but it’s the feel that really has me sold. The feel is as if metal and plastic were combined, so you get that great dynamic response of a metal pick with the soft touch of plastic. It makes me want to play more. The only real problem is the price. I wish they cost in the $20 range so having more than one would seem reasonable.

    The Forefront of Tone

Posted by Wayne V. on 4th Jul 2025

This pick creates a brighter more defined tone. Individual notes really pop. I — carefully — drilled three grip holes so that I wouldn’t fumble. This may be the best pick I’ve ever used.

    converted finger picker

Posted by Mike Van Horne on 2nd Jul 2025

I'm a self taught finger picker with previously zero control over a pick. This pick has changed that, and just works on so many levels from its smooth sound, to strike dexterity and subtlety, to easy grip pressure. It's so great that I just bought another. Thanks Blue Chip for an evolutionary product that's changed my playing.

    Walnut Valley Discovery

Posted by Ford on 20th Jun 2025

I bought my first CT 55 pick back at the 2015 Walnut Valley Festival. I've been in love ever since. I dropped away from the mandolin for a handful of years but when I picked it back up I ordered myself a new CT 55 and it was like jamming with an old friend.
