Product Description
The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

Another great BlueChip pick in my box

The CT 55 is the thickest of all the bluechips I have.To be honest, I now have five BlueChips all different thicknesses and 3 different styles and I give them all five stars.
The longer I play them the better they respond. None better

I've been using Blue Chip Picks for several years now. I just can't say enough good things about them. At any level of flatpicking, these will improve your speed and the clarity of your notes. I've used every kind of pick in the past, and always try the newest ones on the market, but I always come back to Blue Chips. They slip over the strings with no friction, and stick to your fingers like real Tortoise. They are, in fact, superior to Tortoise, and Matthew should get an award for helping save this endagered species by providing a superior alternative. I think these are best for higher level players who understand the subtle difference a great pick can make in their picking. I play mandolin and guitar, and use them for both. The CT-55 is my current fave, but I may have to try the TP-48 next! Thanks Matthew for truly revolutionising the world of flatpicking!

I play the shit out of my picks, I am a full time musician and I can tear through a golden gate thumb pick in about a month, if I'm busy. I have bought 2 blue chip thumb picks this year they are both still functional. keep up the good work!!

The pick is perfect for my Calace mandolin. Smooth and warm, fat sound out of the box. No other pick has given this sound on my mandolin. So, one of the edges is left as it is and it's the default for playing the mandolin. I then experimented with the other two edges. I made them gradually more and more acute and I ended with a perfect three edge pick for all my favours and styles of playing. When I play the bouzouki, I use the most acute edge. It gives me a great punch, which is needed in the bouzouki, while preserving the smoothness and fatness of the notes. It is also very helpful on fast picking and tremolo. When I play the guitar or some more "sweet" melodies on the bouzouki, then I use the not-so-acute edge.
The conclusion out of a year's playing and experimenting with this wonderful pick is that it has given me two lessons:
Lesson 1: I learned "what to expect from a pick"or "What a pick can do". It has definitely become my standard on producing sound with a pick.
Lesson 2: It learned me how to try to imitate its sound on my older favourite picks. I examined thoroughly its bevels and it gave me the knowledge to play around with other materials and sizes. Yet, no other pick became better. Some, are really close!
Although it is extremely high priced, it is like paying a lesson once in lifetime!

Very happy with this pick as the size works great for me on mandolin and guitar. I initially questioned the price but gave it a shot anyway, way glad I did. It's the only pick I use now. Finally.

I dont understand how you do it. but that pick is by far the best thing i have ever had in my hands. It is worth every penny!! seriously!! Not only is the tone wonderful, it has this chemical property or whatever it is, that makes it not slip. which was a big problem with most if not all pics. Every picker knows that speed and note clarity happen when you hold the pic loosely and are relaxed - but i hate having pics with grip tape or sticky crap on there. And i hate having to wet my fingers on my tongue just to have it dry out after 4 seconds. Other plectrums may have ringing tone, but their downside is that it slips out of your hands. blue chip solved it! im a fan for life.

After trying many different picks, this blue chip is by far my favorite. Not only is the tone great, but it slides off the strings like no other pick, making it a pleasure to play with. I like it for my mandolin and guitar.

With this on the market, the Hawksbill Turtles can breathe a sigh of relief for their endangered lives. I bought this pick, after hearing its high praises from luthier, Johnny Rushing. Having only 1 Hawksbill pick (It was legally harvested), I was looking for an alternative that didn't sacrifice tone or endangered animals. This is it, folks. It has the speed, accuracy, and tone of tort, or arguably better. The craftsmanship is perfect.
