The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

The pick sounds good on the strings. I just wish I would have realized the size of it. I would have gotten smaller one. Oh well guess I am stuck with it unfortunately

I'm a hobby player, and have been using Bluechip picks for 3+ years and they are certainly worth it. They are hand made by a small family company who I have had the pleasure to meet (on a trip to the USA) and get to know the exact detail that goes into making the each pick. The cost of the raw material is why the picks cost $35, this is not some big corporate concern, the picks are handmade with precision by a real USA family business. As long as you don't use them, they will last your lifetime and then some, I've just bought some more because I want to ensure I've always got one in my wallet, at work etc. But the real reason I continue to use Bluechip is TONE. Until I started taking professional lessons, I did not realise how important pick selection and pick technique is on your tone of an acoustic instrument. Bluechip picks produce the best tone and I've tried a lot of picks. It's not a gimmick, they really do make a significant improvement in tone and are easier to control for precise picking, particularly cross picking. If your hesitating because you are comparing the price to a mass produced pick that has been stamped out of a machine at a rate of 100 or more an hour, then realise that Bluechip picks are made by hand by the same small team, hand bevelled, each one hand polished until they are perfect, every time. They are the best!

Pick arrived in no time! Flawlessly beveled. Brings a rich clarity out of my mando strings that makes me smile. Worth every penny.

This pick is awesome!!!! I'm new to playing mandolin and never knew a pick could change the sound and playability so much. I'm glad I bought this pick.

I have played with nothing but real tortoise shell for the past forty years, with the occasional experimentation with other picks that claim to have the same sound and feel as tortoise shell. A few of them came close but never as good or better. I was sent a Blue Chip CT 55 as a Fathers day gift (name engraved!) and went on to fall in love with it. I was so impressed I got one for my old pickin' partner that originally introduced me to the tortoise shell tone and now you have another convert. He even went as far as to claim this pick has re invigorated his playing and has inspired him to play more than ever! Also, unlike my tortoise picks ,made from old mirror backs and snuff boxes ,I can easily replace my CT 55 if I lose it. So thank you for making such a quality product

I own 8 or so BC pics. This is a great pic for Mando and guitar. The guys at Blue Chip are always great to deal with!

You wouldn't think that a $35 pick would be worth it, but it is. I use this pick for all my instruments - mandolin and guitars. It's perfect and feels like an extension of my soul. I lost one once and didn't feel right until I replaced it with the exact same model. I once dropped it and stopped the show to ask everyone to help me find it. I swear that it makes my instruments sound better and my playing is more inspired. I don't know how, I just know it's true.

Well I had been using the TAD 50 and thought I'd try this one out. I like it! Seems easier to hold, and I have a little more volume.
I like blue chip picks so I might partial.
