Product Description

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. I no longer share very well.... 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Dec 2017

I continually experiment with picks, though not so much since I’ve been playing with the BCP. I started collecting picks years ago because they are cheaper than buying a new instrument every time I walk in a Music store. It actually took me a while to fall in love with them because I used the ‘really good white ones’ on stage, which were easier to find when I dropped them. However, I now have BCPs in every acoustic Mando and Guitar case I own.

Sadly while I will share the really good white ones, I do not give away my BCP unless I know and trust the person very well.

I started using the Blue Chip pick a couple of years ago and absolutely love the feel of this pick. Once you use a Blue Chip pick you will too will be hooked. I have been playing for over 50 years and will not use anything else.

  5. CT55 Pick - Mandolin 5 Star Review

Posted by on 6th Nov 2017

I've been through the gambit of picks. The size, material, bevel, and durability are unparalleled in the other picks Ive used. It does have a smooth finish bit I have no trouble with it slipping while strumming. Even picks with gripping material on the pick surface slip on me. I believe the lack of slippage on the blue chip is due to the hardness of the plastic, and more importantly the bevel. My current pick is the second I've owned. I lost my first one, and decided I didn't want to pay another $35 for a pick. I tried multiple other picks to include a number of other 'big triangle' style similar to the TC 55. I've used all the various variety packs you can buy with the change you find in your couch. I even became accustomed to a couple Dunlop picks. I finally decided to buy another blue chip, and the first chord, the first melody I played...I saw the contrast. No comparison. All other picks are inferior.

This is by far the smoothest pick I have ever used. I am completely sold on bluechips now.

  8. flys off the strings 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Sep 2017

Im a believer. Compared to previous picks that I have used playing mandolin, Blue Chip picks are a step up from them. Ok you have spent everything you can on a great instrument why play it with a cheap plastic pick. I love my Blue Chip just hope I don't loose it.

  9. Great pick, love how it feels when playing 5 Star Review

Was not sure about purchasing an expensive pick, now that I have one to use I love it. I would recommend one to anyone who plays mandolin.

  10. Superb pick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 27th Jul 2017

Arrived a day earlier than anticipated. Not only does Blue Chip make an excellent product, it's also super-efficient and professional. Much appreciated. On the day of receiving this pick, I played it on a gig (acoustic guitar) and loved it straight away, playing things I'd never played before. There's that tired old argument of spending this much money for a pick, but look at it another way. How much would you pay to be precise, inspired and have a great sound? Seen from this perspective, a Blue Chip pick is an absolute bargain.
