The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

I was prepared to be disappointed but that didn't happen. As a flat picker, it's the best pick I've ever used. I just hope I don't lose it. I keep it in a case in my guitar case. Just in case.....

I am learning how subjective tone is. To me the Blue Chip gives an overly warm tone. I like the sound of the JD 205 much better because it is louder and brighter, just hate trying to hold the damned little thing. I seem to prefer brightness so the Blue Chip is not my favorite. The search continues for me.

I've been using Blue Chip picks for about 5 years (in one case, the same pick!). I play mandolin and guitar with them, and the difference between Blue Chips and any other picks I've tried is astounding. All the good things people say are true: fluid and frictionless through the stroke, oddly adherent to the the fingers without feeling sticky, practically indestructible (see above). I only have two cautions: don;t lose it, and don't ever think you can go back to another pick. You will be spoiled for life. A final word: the customer service at Blue Chip is outstanding.

I tried several picks before buying the CT55. I come from a blues-rock background and had always used the Jazz III. I started learning bluegrass flatpicking and discovered the Jazz III wouldn't work for that type of playing on the acoustic. Tried several Dunlop and the Wegen Bluegrass pick. Non of them quite worked out. Some were fantastic to hold, but had bad tone, and vice versa. Finally, I decided that I would give the CT a try. Wish I had bought one sooner. It is everything I had hoped. Great tone and the pick sticks to your fingers like glue. I may opt for a heavier pick in the future, mainly just to see if there is any hidden tone improvement. The deal I got for free shipping and free pick pouch was icing on the cake.

If you don't have a Blue Chip - I know, I know - $35 (plus shipping) for a guitar pick. And it's crap brown. And, worst of all, it'll make every other pick you own a disappointment.
If you like a big, "heavy" pick and are looking for something special, this is a great place to start. Very stiff but not inflexible.
I love my CT 60. It's stiff enough that I don't think it flexes over the strings at all. The 55 gives just a tiny bit of flex so it feels a little more alive in your hand, but it's still a very stiff pick.

Besides being a Luthier and Owner of a Violin Shop, I have played Mandolin for the past 21 years. Tone to me is everything, and I have been a faithful user of Tortoise Shell picks since the beginning. After just purchasing an amazing Collings Mandolin, I wanted to push the boundaries of tone and clarity and researched different Pick materials. I ran across your name on the Web, I figured I'd try a CT 55 without any expectations. I am sitting here blown away after using this pick for the first time! The tone and clarity are beyond words! It blew my Tortoise pick away in a side by side comparison!! I just came back to your site to order a few more, and I decided to write a review ( which I don't do!) Thank you BlueChip, you have a friend for life, and your personalized engraving looks great! Keep up the amazing work, all the beat Z.Z. Ludwick Owner of Ludwick's House Of Violin.

I continually experiment with picks, though not so much since I’ve been playing with the BCP. I started collecting picks years ago because they are cheaper than buying a new instrument every time I walk in a Music store. It actually took me a while to fall in love with them because I used the ‘really good white ones’ on stage, which were easier to find when I dropped them. However, I now have BCPs in every acoustic Mando and Guitar case I own.
Sadly while I will share the really good white ones, I do not give away my BCP unless I know and trust the person very well.

Glides over the strings. Works great on Mandolin and Guitar
