The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

I honestly don’t know what me look up what pick is best for bluegrass mandolin, but a video really emphasized this pick. I’ve always used a thinner pick that i use for guitar figuring the thinner picks makes the tremolos easier. After the YouTube video, I started experimenting with thicker picks that were close to this one and liked the new powerful and darker tone. So decided to go ahead and order one. I like the shape, easy to hold and the bevels make the playing smooth with little pick noise. The material really does start to feel kinda tacky when it warms up with your body temp but not like double sided tape tacky though, just enough to maintain grip during some hard and fast playing. I always recommend to others that you have to try these things out at least once, you never know if you don’t.

I love my CT55 pick.

I love the CT 55 pick - it's definitely the one I plan to use from now on. My biggest fear was that I wouldn't be able to get a good grip on the pick - I've always had to use picks with rough surfaces or holes or I couldn't hold on to them. But other reviewers were right - it just somehow seems to "stick" to my thumb and forefinger, while allowing me to hold it loosely. I also think the slightly rounded, slightly pointed corners are perfect for getting a warm, but not muddy sound. 5 stars for sure.

I love many things about this pick. The sound, the glide over the strings, the lack of pick noise, the larger triangle shape and bevel are all great features. But the thing I love the MOST is that for some reason it's easy to hang on to. I've tried gritty picks, rubbery picks, picks with ridges, holes, stars, etc., but still got a lot of pick slippage. Despite the smooth surface on the Bluechip, it is very easy to hold on to. After holding it for a sec, it almost feels slightly tacky (in a good way) just where your skin is contacting the pick. It's a pleasure to play with. Thanks for a great product!

2mm thick would be my preference. I also think that molding a rough texture in the middle of the pick would make it easier to keep the corner where I need it. I put painters tape on both sides to accomplish this.

These made me better immediately. Much less pick noise and just the right bevel so it glides across the string. Overall size is bigger making it easier to grip. Been using them for a couple of years now.
