The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.
Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

I picked up the mandolin about two years ago after playing guitar for over 15, so naturally, I took my guitar picks with me. Using a nylon 1.14mm guitar pick it was familiar, and comfortable, and I thought everything was fine.
Then, I read up on mandolin picks and how integral to tone they can be . I never really experienced a dramatic change with any guitar pick before, I thought it was all marketing. Still, I picked up this CT-55 and I have to say not only is my tone vastly improved - rounder, fuller, less tinny - but the shape and beveled edge noticeably made flat picking faster and cleaner.
I have to say, I never thought a pick would have such an immediate and noticeable impact on my sound and technique, but it actually did and I am never going back!

This is the second CT 55 I have owned. I lost the first one (or my toddler took) and was mainly playing with my SR50. I love the SR50 but have a hard time getting the volume I am after with it so when they offered free shipping and engraving for fathers day I treated myself and purchased a replacement. I still go back and forth but definitely notice more volume with the CT55 but prefer the SR50 for tremolo and playing solo. I would like to get the SR60 and see if it will give me all that I am after but overall I am very pleased with both the CT55 and SR50. They are definitely worth the money to me. I have Wegen's and Dunlops also but the Bluechip sound is far superior to my ear.

The CT-55 has changed my playing for the better. This pick has also improved my tone and articulation. I wouldn’t have believed that a pick could achieve this, but it’s true. Since purchasing the CT-55 I tried several “look-alike” picks, but there was no comparison in tone and feel.

I gave the CT55 five stars because it is the best pick for me in my experience. It comes off the strings smoothly and feels good between my fingers. It falls in a tonal area that is neither too sharp or dull. (I do like these picks a little better after having some hours of play on them)
Five stars is a half star better than I would give my second favorite pick (Dunlop Primetone) which is nearly as good at a fraction of the price. But, doesn't your mandolin deserve the best?

This last year mandolin playing has been my passion. I also have been looking for a pick that would sound great and be effortless strumming and picking. I must have acquired a dozen different top shelf picks. I played every one and noticed the different tones, ease and effort to play every pick.
Conclusion, it was a fun journey but hands down the Blue Chip CT55 is by far the best pick I have ever played. The speed bevel also adds to its fluid play. When you’re ready this is the pick! Worth every cent!

I tend to use two kinds of picks: those that give me a dark, mellow tone, and those that give me a bright, happy tone. The CT55 manages to give me that bright, happy tone while somehow still pulling out those darker undertones. And it's quite a bit louder than my other picks. There are a few songs where I opt for my old Dunlop because I don't want the volume or brightness of the CT55, but that's rare. Overall, it's a fantastic pick.

I am happy with my new CT55 picks. I was taking a chance ordering them. I don’t like an overly heavy pick. I do have a Tad 40 that I have been using for years & am pleased with it. I just wanted to experiment with something new. It worked out.

Blue Chip, hands down. While I love the sound of tortoise picks, BCs don't require the perpetual maintenance and care AND we're leaving the hawksbill sea turtles swimming in the sea. Now if Matthew is pulling the BC material from an alternate universe, we may have a different problem to deal with. But until then, I've got a backup BC pick for every one of my first-rotation picks. Guitar life (even in quarantine) is good!.

I love this pick. It sounds great, has a wonderful resonance, and feels great in my hand. My only complaint is that it is a tad heavy than I would like. Getting a softer sound on my mandolin has taken some practice. All in all, I would definitely buy again.

I think this is my fifth CT-55....I have played 30 years, I own dozens of high end picks, and they just dont stack up......I like those ole antique TS shell picks, I think these ole antique picks and Blue Chips work similar......Feel, tone etc.....But those shell picks cost double the BC's, and they are getting hard to find....The BC's are the picks for me!!
