Product Description

The CT55 is a pick custom designed by Chris Thile for his personal use. It is very similar in size and shape to our TAD line of picks. However it is only manufactured in 55/1000 of an inch(1.4mm) thickness and has a custom bevel per his specifications. This is the exact pick that Chris Thile is currently using. See his thoughts on this pick on our users page.

Quarters, Nickels and Dimes, if included in the pictures, are for size reference only. They are not etched on the picks or included with the sale. To use this reference, please place a coin on your current non-Bluechip pick and then compare to the pictures of our picks with coins on top of them. This will help you choose the pick that is closest to your current favorite size and shape.

  1. Nice, but absurdly overpriced 3 Star Review

Well, I guess the headline says it all. Are they made of platinum?

  2. $$$$$ But worth each dollar 5 Star Review

These picks are the next best thing to natural Tortoise shell. Which is endangered so I have given up using them. Better from the wear and maintenance standpoint too. After several years of using my first one there is yet to be any required care of the picking edge.

  3. Worth getting 5 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Jan 2016

Ok, I'm an oldie 'newbie' to flatpicking, been a 3 chord strummer, but now want to up my skill level to be able to flatpick a few tunes and put a few more melody runs in my backup playing. Even as a 'hobby' player, I've got all sorts of picks over the years, but I thought I would try bluechip CT55 particularly as I've got big hands and it looked as if it would give a bit more 'holding' comfort. The pick lives up to all its claims, they are definitely worth the money, granted other people may play great with other picks, but I had improvement straight away.

  4. I'm a newbie, but I love my CT55 5 Star Review

Posted by on 6th Jan 2016

I've only been at the guitar playing thing for a year (with less practice time than I would like, at that). After reading an article in _Acoustic Guitar_ magazine about picks, I decided to see what the fuss was about with BlueChip picks. I've been using various cheap picks, having recently decided that my favorite was celluloid. My BlueChip CT55 is my new favorite. It feels great sliding over the strings, and I can get a warm, mellow sound or a bright sound depending on how I hit the strings with the pick. I also love the size of the pick. I have long fingers. "Normal" sized picks feel too small in my hand, but the CT55 feels just right.

  5. Worth every penny! 5 Star Review

A member of thebluegrass group I'm in let me try his CT-55 and I quickly realized it was superior to the popular beveled edge picks I had been using. I received my C-55 just a few days after ordering, I noticed right off that I loved the way the pick performed and how easily it gripped between my fingers. Unfortunately it was a touch too thick for my liking so I ordered the TAD 4O and 50 as well. I was able to return the 55 for a refund with no issue whatsoever. The 50 is my favorite, it seems to go best with my Collings D-1, the 40 works better for my backup guitar, a Blueridge BR-160. All three are great picks, I'm hooked!

  6. Best pick 5 Star Review

Have had them before and will get them again, both for myself and as gifts.

  7. I have four of them, so I must really like 'em! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Jan 2016

I used to use the TD-60 when playing the guitar but switched to the CT-55 when I bought one for my mandolin. I'm enjoying the increased size and the warmer tone that I can achieve with it on the guitar, especially.

  9. Always the best 5 Star Review

I have bought 4 of these in the past few years. Excellent! I lose them sometimes though....

  10. The Pick That Changed My Guitar Playing Forever 5 Star Review

Posted by on 24th Dec 2015

When I first picked up a Blue Chip pick, it did not hit me right away. But, after playing with it for about 5 minutes, I realized it was so very special. A 55 is thicker than I typically played with, but this pick just glides off the strings like glass. When I go back to my previous pick, the difference is astounding. Nothing compares to this pick. I just love the CT 55. I have given them as gifts to other players, and converted everyone that I gave one to, including the incredible song writer and player, Wayne Watson. Thanks you for an incredible pick. I never knew a pick could change the way I played so much. The most empty feeling I get is when I lose one (I've only lost one!). I've gone back to gigs the next day to find it. Found one in a gravel parking lot. Incredible pick!!
