Product Description

This is our JD Crowe style dobro/resonator thumb pick in a size large. This is a slightly thicker blade design as compared to our banjo picks to withstand the more strenuous use on a dobro. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 60/1000 of an inch(1.50mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard large thumb pick of any brand.

  1. Best So Far 4 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Jan 2013

I bought the large reso and the medium regular JDL, so I'd have a range and a variation to suit different moods. Each has a different feel that is subtle but significant.
I don't want a thumbpick that squeezes my fingers because it cuts down on the sensitivity and sense of "having nothing there" and serves as a distraction. I want to transmit the energy seamlessly into the pick -- so it's a balancing act to get the pick at the point where it's securely on the thumb and not squeezing, but also not so loose that it feels like it's going to fall off. Perhaps some micro dimples on the insides of the steel and pick would make it easier to find the Goldilocks spot, without slippage.
Anyway, I'm not going back. This is the future, as far as I'm concerned.

  2. My new thumb pick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 27th Oct 2012

I didn't want a $40 pick to be my favorite. I didn't want to have to keep track of one & worrying about losing it.
I have tried them all. I have tried making my own. This is the loudest, sharpest I've found. I'll not stop looking, but for now this is my new weapon! Now I have to keep it safe.

  3. Best reso thumbpick I know of 4 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Jul 2012

    I like da pick,
makes rhythm stuff pop more and snappy,
rakin your strings before one of them emotional notes sounds grittier with more tension in the phase noticed,
however, it does take a sec to learn how to make your low reso trems cleaner with minimum string noise and surfy harmonic overtones but boy did I find those cookin quick i did,
all and all, good pick to buy IF YOU DONT LOSE YOUR THUBPICKS
although i do and I bought it anyway!

  4. Outstanding Craftsmanship Coupled With Excellent Tone! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 19th May 2012

I've tried a lot of thumb picks in the past, the most recent one a Zookie (a very good thumb pick). I ordered this pick for reso guitar and Irish tenor banjo.

It fits extremely comfortably, the most comfortable I've ever tried. The tone is on the darker side, with smooth, full sound. At first, the tone threw me off as I was used to a brighter and crisper sound. By day two I was beginning to enjoy it. By day three I was sold and ordered the Crowe banjo thumb pick too!
