Product Description

This is our JD Crowe style dobro/resonator thumb pick in a size large. This is a slightly thicker blade design as compared to our banjo picks to withstand the more strenuous use on a dobro. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 60/1000 of an inch(1.50mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard large thumb pick of any brand.

  1. not for me 2 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Mar 2021

I love blue chip flat picks. But this one doesn’t work for me. I catch the metal part on the string and I kind of hurts to hit the string with force. At least on dobro and guitar I did not like it. I’m going to try banjo, maybe it works there. I know some people like it but not for me.

  2. Unbelievable Thumb Pick #BCT-RESO-JDL 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Mar 2021

I am a Senior Beginner Reso Player taking online lessons through Peghead Nation. I have been using Dunlap 0.0225 finger picks with a fair amount of luck, but the National Large thumb picks I was using were a problem, uncomfortable & breaking at their bend etc. I Ordered this BCT-RESO-JDL Thumb Pick and it is amazing. My practice and playing has improved 90%. The new pick is feather light & comfortable and I do not feel it on after long periods of playing time. Thank You so much for your Contribution to the RESO playing experience... Gary C. Idaho

  3. Best thumb pick I have ever used! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Mar 2021

I play the electric 5-string bass and have always used a thumb pick. My picking thumb was shattered by a ground ball a dozen years ago, and the titanium rod in my thumb took a while to get used to.

I have tried many styles and brands of thumb picks, and I have always liked Blue Chip picks. However, the JD version is clearly the best I have ever used. It is quiet, responsive and comfortable for long sessions. In my opinion, nothing else comes close.

  4. Awesome (might run little large) 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Feb 2021

Based on other picks, I thought I needed a large but it was too big. Matthew exchanged it for a medium which fits perfectly and I couldn't be happier. Great quality pick for my reso!

  5. Truly the Best Thumb Pick Available 5 Star Review

This pick is incredible. The steel band keeps it from slipping on your thumb and the pick itself glides over the strings. It brings brings speed and precision.

  6. Great sound, but it hooks under the strings. 3 Star Review

Posted by on 16th Jul 2020

I sure love the sound and feel of the Blue Chip thumb picks, but they hook under the strings at the most inopportune times. I'm addicted to the tone, but this is a design flaw that could easily be remedied if they would just make the band longer.

For this reason, I have a love-hate relationship with my blue chip thumb picks.

  7. Most comfortable thumbpick ever 5 Star Review

Posted by on 15th May 2020

Tone is nice, the blade is a nice thickness, and the metal band is really comfortable.

  8. large thumbpick seems to run large 3 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Mar 2020

I use Large plastic thumbpicks in every brand. They fit snug. The large in this pick is not tight enough for me. Unfortunately, these are $40 a pop. I'm sure the Medium probably works well and the feel and tone would be great, but I'm hesitant to purchase another just to try it out and be into these for $80 experiment.

  9. Best thumb pick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Mar 2019

I'm 75 and after a lifetime of guitar picking, sidelined by left hand problems, I decided to give the Reso a go. I never used finger picks in all those years so that was a huge undertaking for me. I have tried 8 to 10 different thumb picks and had settled on a zookie L10. I kept studying and this JD BlueChip kept popping up so I ordered a large, thinking it was the size I needed and it came and was too big. So after talking with Matthew I decided to swap it for a Medium and it is as close to perfect as I have found. The exchange took less than a week turn around. Happy picker and back to practice. Thanks, Matthew!

  10. Not to impressed with the thumb pick. 3 Star Review

Posted by on 12th Jan 2019

A CT55 guitar pick was my first blue chip purchase. Absolutely loved it. Not being much of a guitar player, I sent off an email to blue chip asking for suggestions on selecting from the many options. They were quick to respond and help me out. I couldn't be happier. The tone....Wow. I let my friend use it and he purchased his own the next morning. It was so awesome that I had to get a thumb pick for my banjo.
I'm not at all a professional but I have been playing banjo for 15 years. I'm sorry to say, I was much less impressed with the thumb pick. It was very comfortable but I could't seem to play as fast or clean and perhaps, because of the angel of attack, I wasn't so happy with the tone and after two weeks and some tweaking I ended up shelving it.
