Product Description

This is our JD Crowe thumb pick in a size large. This pick was designed by JD Crowe and constructed to his very exacting specifications. The BCT-JDL is the exact pick that JD uses. The pick bears JD's initials on the inside between the rivets. It is constructed using a custom designed stainless steel band and a 50/1000 of an inch(1.25mm) thick BlueChip pick. These picks are laser etched, professionally machined, and hand beveled to create the best thumb pick available.

Size compares to a standard large thumb pick of any brand.

  1. JD crow thumb pick 5 Star Review

It fit nice on the thumb with nice comfort feel as well. Seems to give a nice tone when playing. Definitely recommend this pick for banjo. It also seems to do well with my dobro as well.

  2. Great Pick 5 Star Review

This is my second Blue Chip thumb pick (the other was a slightly longer guitar pick). Really love the quality and feel. It is, along with Sammy Shelor finger picks, the only ones that feel natural on my fingers.

A very clear example of "you get what you pay for." I expect I will lose these before they wear out.

  3. One for each banjo 5 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Dec 2015

I've been using the Blue Chip Thumb pick for my banjo for a couple of years now and couldn't be happier. Recently, I've aquired a 2nd banjo (shhhh don't tell my wife) and arrived at my local jam only to realize that I had left my Blue Chip thumb pick at home with my other Banjo. I immediately ordered a 2nd pick for the other banjo so that this would never happen again. With over 2 years of use on it, I can't tell a bit of difference between the old one and the new one. I'm pretty sure they will both out last me.

  4. Acoustic Guitar Thumbstyle Wonder 5 Star Review

Posted by on 28th Nov 2015

Umm, the pick -- not me :) I have been using Golden Gate thumbpicks for years. After trying a BC flatpick (TAD 50) the GG just began to sound dead to me. This prompted me to try the JDL to try and brighten the tone. It works! This is the best sounding thumbpick I have ever tried. I worried that the stainless steel would be uncomfortable for long playing, but I was wrong. Fits my thumb very closely. If you occasionally grab the under side of the pick with your first finger to use it as a flat pick, you'll have to put a bevel on the top side. I just used a small flat file followed by 400 grit and then 1500 grit emery paper to smooth it out. Works great!

  5. Wisk there were a M/L model... 4 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Nov 2015

I bought the BCT-JDL model for the banjo.

The product is very well manufactured but not really met my willings. Joel Mabus (14th April review down below) seems to share my feelings except that he wishes a rounder tip meanwhile I wish Blue Chips create an intermediate reference that could add a L ring to a medium (M) pit i.e; a thinner one !

The best thing I have to do is to try to reshape my thumbpick, now...

  6. Superior to all others 5 Star Review

Posted by on 13th Oct 2015

It almost killed me to spend $40 on a thumb pick, yet I was not disappointed upon delivery. The sound of this pick is incredible. Crisp and smooth on my Martin 000. I also like the fit, it's snug and rigid enough for solid rhythm up strokes. I do recommend.

  7. tone and fit just right 5 Star Review

Although a little long for what I'm used to in a guitar thumb pick, the tone and fit are perfect.

  8. What I think 5 Star Review

Well this is the best thumb pick I have tried. It fits well and does not turn when I'm playing.

  9. Thanks for a great product! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 28th Jul 2015

I have had many of my friends recommend this thumb pick to me, and I finally bought one. This thumb pick has significantly improved my playing. It's helped my speed, cleanliness, tone, and precision. It was an immediate difference. The only thing I had to do was slightly tighten up the band to fit my thumb better. Thanks BlueChip for a great pick!

  10. Awesome Pick - USPS could do better, LOL 5 Star Review

Posted by on 13th Jun 2015

I live in west Knoxville and these chips are made across town. Within one day the USPS had delivered the pick to my local post office (according to their tracking) and I was anxious and excited to try this thing out. However, the next day my pick took a trip to Nashville, and then two different cities in Maryland before once again arriving back in east Tennessee, LOL. I love, love the pick - you can wear it all day with no pain, no twisting, no catching the strings...well worth the price. But just be patient with the post office because they are not too good with geography and delivering things that are very close by and easy.
